Book excerpt: Cette-recherche teste les interactions entre la performance sociétale et financière des banques à partir d'un modèle de réputation combinant des perspectives offertes par la théorie des parties prenantes et la théorie néo-institutionnelle. Adoptant une approche longitudinale, l'étude s'appuie sur des données de panel. L'échantillon comporte 127 banques issues de 25 pays entre 2002 et 2008. La performance financière des banques est évaluée avec des données comptables puis boursières. Leur performance sociétale est appréciée à partir des données de l'agence de notation SAM. Les résultats indiquent l'existence d'une relation positive de la performance sociétale vers la performance financière des banques, persistante durant la crise financière, et une relation neutre dans l'autre sens, en accord avec le modèle testé. Plus fort avec des données boursières, le lien positif observé est équilibré entre les composantes sociale et environnementale de la performance sociétale.

Cette thèse porte sur l'effet de la culture sur les comportements financiers. Plus spécifiquement, il est examiné si différentes dimensions de la culture, telles que la distance par rapport au pouvoir, l'individualisme, l'évitement de l'incertitude, la masculinité et l'orientation à long terme ont un impact sur la performance des portefeuilles utilisant le « style investing » (momentum, valeur et croissance) pour un échantillon de marchés financiers dans différents pays (Australie, Brésil, Canada, Allemagne, Inde, Japon, Royaume-Uni). Les résultats de l'analyse de régression multivariée, de l'analyse en composantes principales, de l'approche VAR en donnée de panel et de l'analyse de décomposition de la variance indiquent que la performance du portefeuille est liée aux dimensions culturelles; L'individualisme, l'orientation à long terme et la masculinité semblent avoir un impact positif significatif, alors que la distance par rapport au pouvoir et l'évitement de l'incertitude ont une influence négative. De plus, motivés par des recherches récentes qui documentent une relation entre facteurs sociaux et droits économiques des individus, nous examinons également dans cette thèse la relation entre la culture et le niveau de liberté économique au sein de la structure institutionnelle d'un pays. Nos résultats montrent que la culture d'un pays est liée au niveau de liberté économique dont jouissent ses habitants. En outre, cette relation ne semble pas se limiter à une région géographique donnée, mais peut être identifiée partout dans le monde.
