Download or read book Wisdom and Apocalypticism in the Dead Sea Scrolls and in the Biblical Tradition written by Florentino García Martínez and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume contains the papers read at the 51st Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense (July 31 - August 2, 2002) dedicated to the study of the theme of Wisdom and Apocalypticism in the Dead Sea Scrolls and in the biblical tradition in general. The "Main papers" and some of the "Offered papers" have been thematically grouped in four parts. Part I comprises four articles dealing with the relationship between wisdom and apocalypticism in the Scrolls compared to the biblical tradition. Part II includes five papers which focus on specific wisdom compositions from Qumran, such as 1Q/4QMysteries, 4QInstruction, 4QTime of Righteousness, or the "Tractate of the Two Spirits" from the Rule of the Community. The nine contributions of Part III analyse different aspects of biblical Wisdom compositions (in Qohelet, Sirach, and the Wisdom of Solomon) or of apocalyptic writings (in 1 Enoch and 4 Ezra) in the light of the Qumran Wisdom texts. Part IV groups six studies on several aspects of the Wisdom compositions from Qumran (messianic ideas, ecstatic worship, the beatitudes, or the fate of the righteous) which are directly relevant for the study of the New Testament. The articles are written in English (14), French (6), and German (4). Among the contributors are specialists of the Dead Sea Scrolls (Jean Duhaime, Torleif Elgvin, Armin Lange, Hermann Lichtenberger, Emile Puech, Eibert Tigchelaar) and of Early Judaism (e.g., John J. Collins, Daniel Harrington, Michael Knibb), as well as Old Testament scholars (e.g., Hainz-Josef Fabry, Maurice Gilbert, Klaus Koch).

Download or read book Montaigne and the Low Countries 1580 1700 written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-04-30 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Montaigne (1533-1592) is known as the inventor of the essay. His relativism, his craving for self-knowledge and his taste for freedom and tolerance have had a long-lasting influence in Europe. It is therefore surprising that until present no substantial study has been devoted to the multiple relationships between Montaigne and the Low Countries. This volume aims to fill this gap. It studies the Netherlandish presence in Montaigne’s Essays, represented by Erasmus and Lipsius and by contemporary history (the Dutch Revolt against Spain). It also deals with Montaigne’s translations and editions in the Dutch Golden Age, as well as his readership, which included humanists such as Scaliger and Vulcanius, the poets Hooft and Cats, and a painter, Pieter van Veen, who illustrated the Essays. Contributors include: Frans R.E. Blom, Warren Boutcher, Jeanine De Landtsheer, Philippe Desan, Karl A.E. Enenkel, Ton Harmsen, Jeroen Jansen, Johan Koppenol, Anton van der Lem, Michel Magnien, Kees Meerhoff, Olivier Millet, Alicia C. Montoya, Marrigje Rikken, and Paul J. Smith.
Download or read book 4QInstruction sagesse et eschatologie written by Jean-Sébastien Rey and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-01-31 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of an edition, a translation and a commentary of the most important fragments of 4QInstruction. Initially it deals with the linguistic characteristics of the scroll highlighting the links between 4QInstruction and Ben Sira, and also with the Community Rule and the Hodayot. It then investigates the Sapiential fragments dealing with poverty, husband-wife and parent-child relationships. Finally it examines the eschatological fragments. The work seeks to improve the edition and understanding of this fundamental text enhancing our knowledge of the history and development of thinking at Qumran. Moreover, it examines links which 4QInstruction establishes between purely Sapiential discourse and descriptions of eschatological judgement. This study substantially illuminates our understanding of the Wisdom movement in the early intertestamental period.

Download or read book International Law in Motion written by Mohsen Mohebi and published by Presses universitaires de Louvain. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: François Rigaux, who died in 2013, was a great figure of Belgian legal scholarship and left a deep impression on many generations of students from Louvain. Essentially known for his pioneering work in private international law, his legal culture was by no means limited to that field, while his critical thinking on the law radiated far beyond Europe. A man of strong-held political convictions, he fought many battles, which led him along the paths of public international law in search of a fairer world. Counsel for the Islamic Republic of Iran before the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal and judge ad hoc appointed by Iran in a case brought against the United States before the International Court of Justice, he directed at Louvain the doctoral research of several Iranian researchers who later became important figures in the Iranian academic and administrative world, among them is Prof. Mohsen Mohebi the co-editor of this Mélanges. Initiated in Tehran, this bilingual volume of homage brings together twenty contributions on the work of François Rigaux, the jurisprudence of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal as well as various current issues in public international law, including that of economic sanctions.
