Les enseignants ne sont-ils pas, par leur pratique même, les promoteurs de ces biens culturels que sont les langues ? Ne sont-ils pas les défenseurs des droits linguistiques en enseignant les langues ? A partir d’une perspective sociologique et éducative de la didactique des langues et des cultures, cet ouvrage propose une réflexion sur la dynamique des enseignants de langues dans la mondialisation. En s’appuyant sur les interrelations entre le champ linguistique, le champ linguistique de l’enseignement, et le champ de l’enseignement des langues étrangères, sont abordés les processus de mondialisation générant tout à la fois la diversité (le multilinguisme) et l’unicité (l’hypercentralité de l’anglais). Les enjeux des représentations sociales concernant les enseignants de langues et en langues sont plus particulièrement soulignés notamment par la guerre symbolique qu’ils suscitent entre les enseignants de langues, locuteurs « natifs » et locuteurs « non-natifs ». Le basculement du paradigme monolingue vers le paradigme plurilingue reconfigure radicalement la didactique des langues et des cultures et contribue à préciser la position des enseignants de langues comme acteurs de la mondialisation au sein même de la salle de classe, désormais ouverte sur le monde.
