Book Search for Type III Seesaw Heavy Leptons in Collisions at u221A s

Download or read book Search for Type III Seesaw Heavy Leptons in Collisions at u221A s written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the pair production of heavy leptons (N0,L±) predicted by the type-III seesaw theory formulated to explain the origin of small neutrino masses is presented. The decay channels N0 → W±l∓ (l = e,?,?) and L± → W±? (? = ?e,??,??) are considered. The analysis is performed using the final state that contains two leptons (electrons or muons), two jets from a hadronically decaying W boson and large missing transverse momentum. The data used in the measurement correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb–1 of ?? collisions at √s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence of heavy lepton pair production is observed. Heavy leptons with masses below 325–540 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level, depending on the theoretical scenario considered.

Book The Origin of the Third Family

Download or read book The Origin of the Third Family written by Chien-shiung Wu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1967 a group of physicists from the University of Bologna, led by A Zichichi, published a proposal to search for a heavy lepton using the Frascati (e(+)e(-)) collider. The proposal, whose key pages are reproduced in this book on the 30th anniversary of the publication, was the consequence of many years of work started at CERN, where, in addition to the original idea of searching for a heavy lepton carrying its own leptonic number, new technologies were invented to allow the detection of a signal whose identification against the high background of hadronic processes was extremely difficult. More than ten years of work by A Zichichi, together with his students and his collaborators, have paved the way for the discovery of the Third Family of fundamental particles. In this authoritative volume, a group of eminent physicists unequivocally establishes the origin of the Third Family of the basic constituents of matter.

Book Massive Lepton Pair Production in Hadronic Collisions Review Drell Yan Quark Annihilation Scaling Violations

Download or read book Massive Lepton Pair Production in Hadronic Collisions Review Drell Yan Quark Annihilation Scaling Violations written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review is presented of theoretical attempts to describe the massive lepton pair continuum produced in hadronic collisions. Beginning with the classical Drell-Yan quark-antiquark annihilation model, its expectations are compared with data. Scaling violations and corrections to the Drell-Yan pictured are discussed. Next, original work is presented bearing on the understanding of the transverse momentum distributions of the dileptons. In a parton model, the quark-gluon scattering graphs which provide scaling violations also endow the dileptons with relatively large (P/sub T/). Comparisons with available data support these QCD expectations; further tests of the QCD predictions are proposed. Implications are drawn for W production experiments, and predictions are presented for reactions initiated by antiprotons.

Book Search for Type III Seesaw Heavy Leptons in Leptonic Final States in Pp Collisions at square Root s

Download or read book Search for Type III Seesaw Heavy Leptons in Leptonic Final States in Pp Collisions at square Root s written by [Study Group] ATLAS Collaboration CERN and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A search for the pair production of heavy leptons as predicted by the type-III seesaw mechanism is presented. The search uses proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to 139fb−1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis focuses on final states with three or four electrons or muons from the possible decays of new heavy leptons via intermediate electroweak bosons. No significant deviations above the Standard Model expectation are observed; upper and lower limits on the heavy lepton production cross-section and masses are derived respectively. These results are then combined for the first time with the ones already published by ATLAS using the channel with two leptons in the final state. The observed lower limit on the mass of the type-III seesaw heavy leptons combining two, three and four lepton channels together is 910 GeV at the 95% confidence level

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 23 July to 10 August 1977 a group of 125 physicists from 72 laboratories of 20 countries met in Erice to attend the 15th Course of the International School of Subnuclear Physics. The countries represented at the School were: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Venezuela. The School was sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Public Education (MPI), the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technologi cal Research (MRST) , the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Regional Sicilian Government (ERS) and the Heizmann Institute of Science. The School was very exciting due to the impressive number of frontier problems which were discussed. Being the 15th year of the School, it was decided to review all outstanding "Whys". At various stages of my work I have enjoyed the collaboration of many friends whose contributions have been extremely important for the School and are highly appreciated. I would like to thank Dr.A. Gabriele, Ms.S. McGarry, Mr. and Mrs. S. Newman, Ms.P. Savalli and Ms.M. Zaini for the general scientific and administrative work. Finally, I would like to thank most warmly all those ~n Erice, Bologna and Geneva who helped me on so many occasions and to whom I feel very much indebted.
