Cassirer schätzte Platons Ideenlehre sehr; darüber hinaus setzt er sich hier auch kritisch mit historischen Platonauslegungen auseinander. Die Vorlesung über Aristoteles wiederum stellt den einzigen größeren diesem Philosophen gewidmeten Text von Cassirers Hand dar.
