Book Lectures on Differential Equations

Download or read book Lectures on Differential Equations written by Philip L. Korman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lectures on Differential Equations provides a clear and concise presentation of differential equations for undergraduates and beginning graduate students. There is more than enough material here for a year-long course. In fact, the text developed from the author's notes for three courses: the undergraduate introduction to ordinary differential equations, the undergraduate course in Fourier analysis and partial differential equations, and a first graduate course in differential equations. The first four chapters cover the classical syllabus for the undergraduate ODE course leavened by a modern awareness of computing and qualitative methods. The next two chapters contain a well-developed exposition of linear and nonlinear systems with a similarly fresh approach. The final two chapters cover boundary value problems, Fourier analysis, and the elementary theory of PDEs. The author makes a concerted effort to use plain language and to always start from a simple example or application. The presentation should appeal to, and be readable by, students, especially students in engineering and science. Without being excessively theoretical, the book does address a number of unusual topics: Massera's theorem, Lyapunov's inequality, the isoperimetric inequality, numerical solutions of nonlinear boundary value problems, and more. There are also some new approaches to standard topics including a rethought presentation of series solutions and a nonstandard, but more intuitive, proof of the existence and uniqueness theorem. The collection of problems is especially rich and contains many very challenging exercises. Philip Korman is professor of mathematics at the University of Cincinnati. He is the author of over one hundred research articles in differential equations and the monograph Global Solution Curves for Semilinear Elliptic Equations. Korman has served on the editorial boards of Communications on Applied Nonlinear Analysis, Electronic Journal of Differential Equations, SIAM Review, an\ d Differential Equations and Applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though ordinary differential equations is taught as a core course to students in mathematics and applied mathematics, detailed coverage of the topics with sufficient examples is unique. Written by a mathematics professor and intended as a textbook for third- and fourth-year undergraduates, the five chapters of this publication give a precise account of higher order differential equations, power series solutions, special functions, existence and uniqueness of solutions, and systems of linear equations. Relevant motivation for different concepts in each chapter and discussion of theory and problems-without the omission of steps-sets Ordinary Differential Equations: A First Course apart from other texts on ODEs. Full of distinguishing examples and containing exercises at the end of each chapter, this lucid course book will promote self-study among students.

Book Textbook of Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Textbook of Ordinary Differential Equations written by C. R. MONDAL and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in a clear, precise and readable manner, this textbook (now revised and corrected) is designed to provide postgraduate mathematics students with a sound and inspiring introduction to the main themes of ordinary differential equations. It is presented from the viewpoint of applied mathematics to treat differential equations both from the theoretical background and practical applications to scientific and engineering problems. Beginning with a comprehensive treatment of linear differential equations with variable coefficients, the text gives a detailed discussion on some well-known special functions which provide solutions of secondorder linear ordinary differential equations having several regular singular points. Many of the standard concepts and methods which are useful in the study of special functions are discussed. The properties of special functions are derived from their differential equations and boundary conditions. Finally, existence and uniqueness of solutions of differential equations are established. Worked-out examples are introduced throughout the text. End-of-chapter exercises further help understand the mathematical and physical structure of the subject.

Book Differential Equations Mechanics and Computation

Download or read book Differential Equations Mechanics and Computation written by Richard S. Palais and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009-11-13 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a conceptual introduction to the theory of ordinary differential equations, concentrating on the initial value problem for equations of evolution and with applications to the calculus of variations and classical mechanics, along with a discussion of chaos theory and ecological models. It has a unified and visual introduction to the theory of numerical methods and a novel approach to the analysis of errors and stability of various numerical solution algorithms based on carefully chosen model problems. While the book would be suitable as a textbook for an undergraduate or elementary graduate course in ordinary differential equations, the authors have designed the text also to be useful for motivated students wishing to learn the material on their own or desiring to supplement an ODE textbook being used in a course they are taking with a text offering a more conceptual approach to the subject.

Book Solution of Ordinary Differential Equations by Continuous Groups

Download or read book Solution of Ordinary Differential Equations by Continuous Groups written by George Emanuel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-11-29 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an engineer and sharply focused on practical matters, this text explores the application of Lie groups to solving ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Although the mathematical proofs and derivations in are de-emphasized in favor of problem solving, the author retains the conceptual basis of continuous groups and relates the theory to problems in engineering and the sciences. The author has developed a number of new techniques that are published here for the first time, including the important and useful enlargement procedure. The author also introduces a new way of organizing tables reminiscent of that used for integral tables. These new methods and the unique organizational scheme allow a significant increase in the number of ODEs amenable to group-theory solution. Solution of Ordinary Differential Equations by Continuous Groups offers a self-contained treatment that presumes only a rudimentary exposure to ordinary differential equations. Replete with fully worked examples, it is the ideal self-study vehicle for upper division and graduate students and professionals in applied mathematics, engineering, and the sciences.

Book Lecture Notes on Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Lecture Notes on Ordinary Differential Equations written by P. K. Subramanian and published by . This book was released on 2017-08-10 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to make the study of differential equations enjoyable. Many standard texts use only the method of undetermined coefficients. These methods, however, are laborious and painstaking. In this book we introduce the elegant and powerful operator methods; we use them early and consistently. The student is also exposed to the undetermined coefficients method so that he/she can choose the appropriate method in a given situation. In the same vein, we illustrate the use of Leibniz's theorem to easily find the coefficients when one uses power series methods. Many applications are included, such as determination of orthogonal trajectories, envelopes, discussion of predator-prey and interspecies competition problems. There are ample exercises with answers and hints for solutions where necessary. This book has been extensively class tested.
