As I had occasion to say to the Bar Association of the city of New York, last fall was a year, when I delivered the address before it, "We are all lawyers, and judges do not cease to be layers by becoming judges; in fact, they would be very poor judges if they were not lawyers." The subject with which I propose to occupy your attention in the three discourses that I shall have the pleasure of delivering before you, is "The Constitution of the United Stales."
