Book Spiritual Science

Download or read book Spiritual Science written by Steve Taylor and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is often assumed that there are two ways of interpreting the world: a rational scientific way, or an irrational religious way. Spiritual Science offers a third alternative: a spiritual view of reality that transcends both conventional science and religion, and answers many of the riddles that neither can explain. The standard model of science has had little success in explaining such areas as human consciousness, the connection between the mind and the body, altruism and ‘anomalous’ phenomena such as near-death experiences, psi phenomena (such as telepathy) and spiritual experiences. But from a ‘panspiritist’ point of view – which sees spirit or consciousness as a fundamental essence of reality – it is possible to make sense of all these things. Steve Taylor puts forward the evidence for a spiritual view of reality, drawing on the insights of philosophers, physicists, mystics, as well as spiritual traditions and indigenous cultures. He systematically shows how a ‘panspiritist’ view can explain many puzzling aspects of science and the world, including evolution and the origins of life, and a wide range of other phenomena such as quantum physics, the placebo effect, precognition and neuroplasticity. Spiritual Science offers a new vision of the world that is compatible with both modern science and ancient spiritual teachings. It provides a more accurate and holistic account of reality than conventional science or religion, integrating a wide range of phenomena that are excluded from both. After showing how the materialist worldview demeans the world and human life, Spiritual Science offers a brighter alternative – a vision of the world as sacred and interconnected, and of human life as meaningful and purposeful. Spiritual Science explains how the standard materialist model of reality developed, and turned into a belief system. This belief system can only function by denying (or explaining away) a whole range of phenomena that are part of human experience. It is possible to be scientific without adopting this belief system – in fact, it is much more rational to do so.

Book A Reply to William T Dwight D D On Spiritualism

Download or read book A Reply to William T Dwight D D On Spiritualism written by Jabez C. Woodman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-19 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Reply to William T. Dwight, D. D., On Spiritualism: Three Lectures This discourse is intended as a reply to the sermon delivered by Dr. Dwight on the twenty-sixth of April past, on the subject of Spiritualism; and the text IS selected as a motto, not because the whole discourse will be pertinent to it but because the first clause of it was selected by him on that occasion. In the ser mon, he took pains to inform us, that he was addressing himself to those who receive the Bible as God's W'ord. In our reply, we intend to hold him to the standard of the Gospel. The first idea, presented in the sermon, is the fact, that there are secret things belonging solely to God. On this point, there is no controversy. Before creation's dawn, God existed absolute and alone. Then, all things were secret, and all things belonged solely to God. Even then, there were, in the Divine mind, ideas or archetypes of all the men and things and images, that have existed; of all that now exist; and of all that shall ever exist hereafter. So much is implied in the omniscience of God. The great point of difference between the author of this sermon and the Spiritualists, is, that the former believes the Book of Rev elation to be closed, while the latter hold, that God is ever willing to reveal himself, and from time to time continues to do so, by his angels as the ministers of his will. The chapter from which the text is taken, furnishes a notable instance of the progressive nature of revelation. Moses, having given to the Israelites a system of laws by one revelation in Horeb, proceeded, when they came into the land of Moab, to recapitulate the statutes previously given. Book Ten Lectures on Psychotherapy and Spirituality

Download or read book Ten Lectures on Psychotherapy and Spirituality written by Nathan Field and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a much-needed exploration of contemporary theories on psychotherapy and spirituality, moving away from the more traditional, non-spiritual aspects of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. The book consists of a dialogue between the opposing sides; most of the papers have responses from the "other" side. This dialogue mirrors the early communication between Freud and Jung regarding spirituality, and opens up doors for continuing collaboration between psychoanalysis as a pure science and the spiritual and religious dimensions within. This inspiring collection of papers grew from the lectures held in 2002 at the London Centre for Psychotherapy. In the time of increased interest in more scientific schools of psychoanalysis such as neuropsycho-analysis, there is also a surge of interest in spirituality within psychoanalysis, as demonstrated by the great interest in these lectures.

Download or read book Lectures on Faith written by Joseph Smith (Jr.) and published by Zion's Camp Books. This book was released on 1988 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special edition of the Lectures on Faith from Zion’s Camp Books is formatted for convenience on an eReader, with more than 100 internal links to scriptures and citations. We hope it will give you a great reading experience! The Lectures on Faith were originally prepared as materials for the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio in 1834 and were included in the Doctrine and Covenants from 1835 to 1921. Although the Lectures on Faith have never been accepted as revelation by the body of the church (and so were removed from the Doctrine and Covenants in 1921), they contain important doctrinal insights that can help anyone seeking to learn more about faith and come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. President Joseph Fielding Smith noted, “I suppose that the rising generation knows little about the Lectures on Faith. . . . In my own judgment, these Lectures are of great value and should be studied. . . . I consider them to be of extreme value in the study of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Seek Ye Earnestly. Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1970.) Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has stated the lectures contain “some of the best lesson material ever prepared on the Godhead; on the character, perfections, and attributes of God; on faith, miracles, and sacrifice. They can be studied with great profit by all gospel scholars.” (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine. Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1966.)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiritualism Explained: Being a Series of Twelve Lectures Delivered Before the New York Conference of Spiritualists The relations of man to his God have occupied the first minds of every age, but without rendering those relations so understandable to the mass of mankind as to be admitted as true. It has been evident to many, although not to all, that some minds so engaged have been inspired to write beyond the current knowledge of their day, indeed to foretell truths which could only be recognized as such after centuries of progression. The natural propensity of the human mind in the exercise of its ingenuity has been constantly developing in the endeavor to theorize upon the writings of these inspired authors, so as to present an entire system for the consideration of man. Each of these systems so proposed has passed away, from the fact that it carried with it the elements of its own destruction, itself not arising purely from the absolute, and therefore subject to the analysis of progressed mind, and by such analysis found wanting.
