Book World Peace Or Principles of International Law in Their Application to Efforts for the Preservation of the Peace of the World Classic Reprint

Download or read book World Peace Or Principles of International Law in Their Application to Efforts for the Preservation of the Peace of the World Classic Reprint written by Fred H. Aldrich and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from World Peace, or Principles of International Law in Their Application to Efforts for the Preservation of the Peace of the World But events are moving rapidly. The great epoch producing period has not passed, and it will not have passed until the questions of an attempt at permanent peace and of reconstrue tion are settled, and events will move rapidly until that time, not fast enough to please some, but possibly too fast to insure the permanence of the settlement that shall be attained. When it became apparent that the American people were going to be called upon, either through the right of petition or at the polls, to express themselves upon the question of a pro posed constitution for a League of Nations I was an earnest advocate of the belief that every person should study such questions and that all who had given such study serious con sideration should express themselves to the end that any action on the part of the people would be the result of thought and delibera tion. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from International Law, Vol. 1: Peace We have not attempted a deductive treatment. Such a treatment might start from state sovereignty or from the assertion of certain rights as inherent in a state, but it would lead in many cases to the admission of clashing sovereignties or rights, that is to no result, unless the starting-points were defined with a precision only attainable by embodying the conclusions in them. International sovereignty and rights are the growth of recent centuries, and the very object of our science is to ascertain the point at which they now stand. Some of the earlier stages of that growth were assisted by theories of a law of nature and nations, of which what is good survives under the name of justice, a ground more solid but less capable of being systematised, while the attempt to transfer wholesale to associa tions what is true of natural individuals was bound to fail. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Development of International Law After the World War In accordance with its original character, this book offers only a survey of the future problems of international law. In this work I have given merely some directing outlines. I have been obliged to forgo entering upon the individual problems here, since this would have claimed materially more space and also more time. But I also believe that m the present hour it 18 above all necessary to call to mind once more the fundamental tendencies in the development of international law. The problems to be solved for international law in the future are neither simple nor small in number. We may rejoice if, upon the conclusion of peace, we succeed in obtaining an agreement on the basic principles. The future work will, however, take decades. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from International Law Applied to the Treaty of Peace Only the first half of this prophecy has been fulfilled; in the pursuit of material and illogical objects by the Allied and Associated governments the opportunity to realize the latter half has been postponed to a later time. The sweeping aside of all restraints by the victors must cause something of a shock to those who read the articles of the treaty in the belief that the character of imposed peace has changed. Book Halleck s International Law Vol 1

Download or read book Halleck s International Law Vol 1 written by Sherston Baker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Halleck's International Law, Vol. 1: Or Rules Regulating the Intercourse of States in Peace and War During the war between the United States and Mexico the Author, while serving on the staff of the commander of the Pacific squadron, and as Secretary of State of California, was often required to give opinions on questions of international law growing out of the Operations of the war. As it was sometimes difficult or impossible to procure books of refer ence, except in the libraries of ships of war which occasionally touched at the ports of the northern Pacific, he commenced a series of notes and extracts, which were arranged under dif ferent heads, convenient for use. The manuscript so formed has been occasionally added to as new books were procured, and it is now given to the press, with the hope that it may be found useful to officers of the army and navy, and possibly also to the professional lawyer. With this view, a number of authorities are referred to at the end of each paragraph. It is proper to remark that these authorities are not quoted in support of the views expressed in the text, for they are some times directly opposed to the opinions so expressed. They will, however, be found to contain something upon the ques tions discussed, or upon matters immediately connected with them. Book The Principles of International Law Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Principles of International Law Classic Reprint written by Thomas Joseph Lawrence and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of International Law The story I have to tell will be found in the text. I have not relegated important matter to notes, nor printed on my pages long quotations from other authors or excerpts from original authorities. I have preferred the much more labo rions task of extracting their substance and putting it in my own words into the body of the book, which I trust has gained thereby in both the decrease of bulk and increase of readableness. But I have taken care to provide the means of checking my assertions. At the bottom of nearly every page will be found references, by the use of which teachers and students can amplify or correct the statements in the text and men of aflairs obtain the more detailed information they may want for practical purposes. The notes are, I h0pe, sufficient. My object has been to make them adequate without over loading them with matter. I have not, for instance, referred to a large number of writers of all degrees of authority, when the citation of a few great ones gave the necessary support to my argument; nor have I quoted a dozen cases, when one or two were enough. I have also taken care that most of the cases given in the text should be something more than mere names to my readers. The material facts are almost always described, so that the points of law may be seen inviii preface. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book A New Principle of International Law Classic Reprint written by A. M. M. Montijn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Principle of International Law In the midst of the dreadful world events one asks oneself: How much longer? How much longer shall this slaughter of human beings -last? Until one side or the other has been vanquished? Thus have wars ended up to the present. But the peace, which then followed, was generally not of long duration. Indeed a peace, to which the vanquished have been driven, gives them no rest, but on the contrary incites to fresh conflict. It has always been so up to now, and so will it be, if in this case also, peace is imposed upon the vanquished. Download or read book International Law Some Problems of the War written by H. Erle Richards and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from International Law, Some Problems of the War: A Lecture Delivered Before the University of Oxford in the Hall of All Souls College on October 30, 1915 The commencement of the new academic year finds the world still held fast in the grip of this tremendous war there has as yet been no indication of slackening on either side: rather the tendency has been to growth than to decline. Fresh nations are being drawn into the struggle, wider areas are becoming subject to the devastation of hostilities. And the thoughts of every one of us are still absorbed in the problems that arise out of the war day by day, problems of strategy, of policy, of economics, and of international law. It is on some of the questions on this last subject that I take leave to address the University to-day, since they fall directly within the province of this Chair.
