Download or read book Nonlinear Systems of Partial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics written by Basil Nicolaenko and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1986-12-31 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes of 47 papers focus on the increased interplay of theoretical advances in nonlinear hyperbolic systems, completely integrable systems, and evolutionary systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. The papers both survey recent results and indicate future research trends in these vital and rapidly developing branches of PDEs. The editor has grouped the papers loosely into the following five sections: integrable systems, hyperbolic systems, variational problems, evolutionary systems, and dispersive systems. However, the variety of the subjects discussed as well as their many interwoven trends demonstrate that it is through interactive advances that such rapid progress has occurred. These papers require a good background in partial differential equations. Many of the contributors are mathematical physicists, and the papers are addressed to mathematical physicists (particularly in perturbed integrable systems), as well as to PDE specialists and applied mathematicians in general.

Download or read book Applications of Group Theory in Physics and Mathematical Physics written by Mosh Flato and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1985-12-31 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past decade has seen a renewal in the close ties between mathematics and physics. The Chicago Summer Seminar on Applications of Group Theory in Physics and Mathematical Physics, held in July, 1982, was organized to bring together a broad spectrum of scientists from theoretical physics, mathematical physics, and various branches of pure and applied mathematics in order to promote interaction and an exchange of ideas and results in areas of common interest. This volume contains the papers submitted by speakers at the Seminar. The reader will find several groups of articles varying from the most abstract aspects of mathematics to a concrete phenomenological description of some models applicable to particle physics. The papers have been divided into four categories corresponding to the principal topics covered at the Seminar. This is only a rough division, and some papers overlap two or more of these categories.
Download or read book Reacting Flows written by G. S. S. Ludford and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1986-12-31 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes represent the culmination of the Special Year `84-'85 in Reacting Flows held at Cornell University. As the proceedings of the 1985 AMS/SIAM Summer Seminar in Applied Mathematics, the volumes focus on both mathematical and computational questions in combustion and chemical reactors. They are addressed to researchers and graduate students in the theory of reacting flows. Together they provide a sound basis and many incentives for future research, especially in computational aspects of reacting flows. Although the theory of reacting flows has developed rapidly, researchers in the two subareas of combustion and chemical reactors have not communicated. The main goal of this seminar was to synthesize the mathematical theory and bring it to the interface with large-scale computing. All of the papers have high research value, but the first five introductory lectures should be especially noted.
Download or read book Computational Solution of Nonlinear Systems of Equations written by Eugene L. Allgower and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1990-04-03 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear equations arise in essentially every branch of modern science, engineering, and mathematics. However, in only a very few special cases is it possible to obtain useful solutions to nonlinear equations via analytical calculations. As a result, many scientists resort to computational methods. This book contains the proceedings of the Joint AMS-SIAM Summer Seminar, ``Computational Solution of Nonlinear Systems of Equations,'' held in July 1988 at Colorado State University. The aim of the book is to give a wide-ranging survey of essentially all of the methods which comprise currently active areas of research in the computational solution of systems of nonlinear equations. A number of ``entry-level'' survey papers were solicited, and a series of test problems has been collected in an appendix. Most of the articles are accessible to students who have had a course in numerical analysis.

Download or read book Vortex Dynamics and Vortex Methods written by Christopher Radcliff Anderson and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1991-12-23 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding vortex dynamics is the key to understanding much of fluid dynamics. For this reason, many researchers, using a great variety of different approaches--analytical, computational, and experimental--have studied the dynamics of vorticity. The AMS-SIAM Summer Seminar on Vortex Dynamics and Vortex Methods, held in June 1990 at the University of Washington in Seattle, brought together experts with a broad range of viewpoints and areas of specialization. This volume contains the proceedings from that seminar. The focus here is on the numerical computation of high Reynolds number incompressible flows. Also included is a smaller selection of important experimental results and analytic treatments. Many of the articles contain valuable introductory and survey material as well as open problems. Readers will appreciate this volume for its coverage of a wide variety of numerical, analytical, and experimental tools and for its treatment of interesting important discoveries made with these tools.
Download or read book Quantum Probability And Infinite Dimensional Analysis Proceedings Of The 26th Conference written by Luigi Accardi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007-07-12 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the latest results in the fields of quantum probability and infinite dimensional analysis. The contributions range from classical probability, 'pure' functional analysis and foundations of quantum mechanics to applications in mathematical physics, quantum information theory and modern mathematical finance. This diversity illustrates that research in quantum probability and infinite dimensional analysis is very active and strongly involved in modern mathematical developments and applications.
