Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes on Qualitative Analysis Although the advantages to be gained by teaching qualitative analysis by lecture are sufficiently obvious, it is a serious disadvantage to the student that the necessity of taking proper notes often pre vents him from seeing what takes place upon the lecture table. This little book was intended to give concisely the most important facts essential to intelligent work in the laboratory, and thus give the stu dent more leisure for observation in the lecture room. A comparative description of those compounds of bases and acids which are commonly found or used in analysis is first given, and after wards a method of separation which experience has proved to be suf ficiently simple and accurate, is briefly explained. This method of procedure from the properties. Of compounds to the methods of sepa ration will also serve to show the way in which the more difficult problems of analysis must be solved. Book Introduction to Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint

Download or read book Introduction to Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint written by W. Lash Miller and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Qualitative Analysis His book is written primarily for use in the chemical laboratory of the University Of Toronto. The laboratory course is designed to complement the work in the lecture room, by making the student familiar with the phenomena treated Of in the lectures; and, accordingly, in the present work special attention has 'been paid to the study of the chemical reaction, and an attempt has been made to introduce in qualitative form the results Of the recent advances in the theory Of solutions. With a view of arranging the descriptive matter as concisely as possible, and, at the same time, Of developing the powers Of observation and comparison in the individual student, the solubilities and colors of the various salts have been presented in tabular form, and the repetition Of detailed instruction avoided throughout. The tables Of separation are constructed so as to necessitate continua] reference to the text, and are placed with the groups of substances to which they refer; as it is the experience of the authors that when bunched in the usual way, they are made use of to the almost total neglect of the rest of the book. Book A Short Course in Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Short Course in Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint written by J. M. Crafts and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Short Course in Qualitative Analysis In preparing a new edition of this work, the editor has made no essential alternation of the plan adopted by Professor Crafts in the previous editions. He has endeavored, however, as far as possible, to embody the practical results of the great advance made in both theoretical and practical chemistry within the past ten years. The few important changes thereby rendered necessary may be briefly specified. Chapter II., on chemical nomenclature, has been entirely rewritten. The usefulness of the work has been somewhat extended by the introduction of several elements not included in the previous editions, viz.: strontium, cadmium, iodine, and bromine. Further changes have been made in the methods of separation and detection of several of the elements; more reliable processes being substituted for those which in the hands of students were found not to be entirely satisfactory. The editor desires especially to acknowledge his obligation to his friend and colleague, Dr. G. C. Caldwell, for numerous valuable suggestions of which he has availed himself. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Qualitative Analysis by Solution If later the child, now a youth, undertakes the study Of Chemistry, he will familiarize himself with elements and compounds by precisely the same method. Expertness in differentiating and classifying such substances is dependent, primarily, upon the delicacy Of adjustment Of the nervous system, that is, upon talent; and, secondarily, upon practice. In so far, chemical analysis is an art. But the task Of the chemist, which is no less than to acquire a positive acquaintance with the ultimate composition and characteristic qualities Of every accessi ble body in the material universe, is greatly abridged and lightened by the classification Of phenomena, substances, and bodies by certain principles which render the world rational to us, and which we name natural laws. In this aspect, Chemical analysis is a science. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Notes on Qualitative Analysis

Download or read book Notes on Qualitative Analysis written by Henry John Horstman Fenton and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Qualitative Analysis: Concise and Explanatory In revising the present edition, a few minor corrections and alterations have been made in matters of detail, and some additional foot-notes added. Beyond these I have not considered it necessary or advisable to make any material change in the scope or arrangement of the book. H. J. H. F. January, 1888. Preface To The First Edition. The principal object of the present work, while setting forth the usual methods of Qualitative Analysis in their most concise form, is to direct, and if possible to enforce, attention to the rationale of each operation performed, and the nature of each reaction which takes place. It is hoped that the system adopted will tend to some extent to check the prevailing tendency, common even among more advanced students, to regard Chemical Analysis as a mere routine of mechanical operations, and entirely to overlook its scientific aspect. It has been my endeavour in drawing up the Analytical Tables, with their Explanations, to render each one comprehensive, avoiding as far as possible the necessity of reference to remote sections or pages. The scheme of analysis recommended is in substance the same as that given in the standard text-books, but considerable changes have been introduced in many important matters of detail, and in arrangement, such as experience has shewn to be advantageous. Book The Elements of Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Elements of Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint written by William Albert Noyes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Qualitative Analysis Two reasons have led to the writing of this book. One has been the desire to give to my classes a scheme for quali tative analysis in which points where a beginner is liable to make mistakes are especially guarded by careful and explicit directions for procedure. In this respect the book is the result of considerable experience with classes in the labora tory, where especial pains have been taken to discover the reasons for errors on the part of ordinary students. Quali tative analysis is of no value unless it leads to certain results, and the beginner needs to have it impressed upon his mind that certainty can only be attained by performing each operation in exactly the right way. In the author's opinion it is better to teach the student the right way at first, rather than to give only an outline and expect him to fill in the details of manipulation for himself. Every one who has had experience in the matter knows, however, that no amount of careful direction in a text-book can supply the place of constant watchfulness on the part of the instructor. Download or read book A Brief Course in Qualitative Analysis Classic Reprint written by Ernest A. Congdon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Brief Course in Qualitative Analysis IT has been the aim in the preparation of this manual to render it as concise as possible with the least sacrifice of a study of reactions and solubilities of chemical im portance. For this reason, many of the reactions found in larger books have been omitted. The following are the points covered in the manual: Preliminary Reactions on Bases and Acids; Schemes of Analysis for Bases and Acids Brief Explanatory Notes on the Analyses; Treatment of Solid Substances (powders, Alloys or Metals); Table of Solubilities of salts of the Bases studied. A comprehensive list of questions on Qualitative Analysis, that will force the student to Mint, Completes the Manual. These questions, together with the explanatory notes on the schemes of analysis, it is hoped will excite the student's interest and prove a source of inspiration as well as an incentive to intelligent work. The book is intended merely as a laboratory guide, and should be supplemented by frequent Quiz Classes and by constant personal attention. The educational value of such instruction cannot be overestimated. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
