Book A National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste at the Consumer Level

Download or read book A National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste at the Consumer Level written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 30 percent of the edible food produced in the United States is wasted and a significant portion of this waste occurs at the consumer level. Despite food's essential role as a source of nutrients and energy and its emotional and cultural importance, U.S. consumers waste an estimated average of 1 pound of food per person per day at home and in places where they buy and consume food away from home. Many factors contribute to this wasteâ€"consumers behaviors are shaped not only by individual and interpersonal factors but also by influences within the food system, such as policies, food marketing and the media. Some food waste is unavoidable, and there is substantial variation in how food waste and its impacts are defined and measured. But there is no doubt that the consequences of food waste are severe: the wasting of food is costly to consumers, depletes natural resources, and degrades the environment. In addition, at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has severely strained the U.S. economy and sharply increased food insecurity, it is predicted that food waste will worsen in the short term because of both supply chain disruptions and the closures of food businesses that affect the way people eat and the types of food they can afford. A National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste at the Consumer Level identifies strategies for changing consumer behavior, considering interactions and feedbacks within the food system. It explores the reasons food is wasted in the United States, including the characteristics of the complex systems through which food is produced, marketed, and sold, as well as the many other interconnected influences on consumers' conscious and unconscious choices about purchasing, preparing, consuming, storing, and discarding food. This report presents a strategy for addressing the challenge of reducing food waste at the consumer level from a holistic, systems perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In organizational behavioral economic view, whether they have cause and effect relationship between employees how to use resources behaviors and organizational resource excess use within organizations. For example, if the organization has many employees number, whether the organization will use its any internal tangible and intangible resources easily per day.For construction organization example, one construction organization must need to buy different kinds of construction materials to prepare to let workers to help it to manufacture different kinds of properties or houses ( products) in order to sell to property buyers. In its every building construction site, it will need more or less workers, they are needed to use different kinds of construction materials to build houses in different construction sites. I assume that construction site (A), it has 100 construction workers number, every day, construction site (A) 100 workers need to use different kinds of construction materials to help them to build 3 building floors wall at least floor number in the construction site (A).I assume that these 100 construction workers, they include proficient workers and not proficient workers. For proficient construction workers group, they have 50 number, and not proficient construction workers group, they also have 50 number . Hence, the proficient construction workers only need to spend 3 hours maximum and use less number of construction materials, then they can finish to build 3 building floors wall per day.I also assume that all constructoio material supply number is limited. It means that due to this construction firm needs to pre-booking to purchase this kind of the best quality of constructoin material from overseas before three worths. So, it must not have enough time to pre-booking to purchase this kind of best quality of constructoin materials when they are used rapaidly within one month, due to this one month is the final finishing time to this construction firm within one month. Hence, limited construction material supply number and limited finishing time to build this new 40 floors house within this final one month .

Book Efficient Using Organizational Resources Strategies

Download or read book Efficient Using Organizational Resources Strategies written by Johnny Ch Lok and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-03 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To judge whether robots can help any organizations to avoid resources waste behavior. We need to know whether robots can own recyle function. How do robots helpthe environment? Robots can help reduce waste that is implemented by effectively sorting materials that can be recycled and put to use again. They can even help sort waste materials quickly and move efficiently than humans reduce the input power amd cost unsociated with such processes. However, robots also may help business organizations with recycling, instead of natural environment . For example, tobots may help organization facility cut operate resource cost and allowed to take on a second load of recyclables to sort throgh. How robotic technology help organizations reduce waste?Advanced software has made it easier to plan out routes that can efficiently guide waste collecting the waste and recycling materials that need to be collected. It also makes collection more fuel efficient and reduces energy usage to any offices, plants, warehouses, business organizations. It seems that robots can help organizations to bring recycling advantages. We should definitely keep on teaching robots to recycle our waste, e.g. clean robotics makes waste management smart with a robotic trash can that automatically separates used and not used materials in workplace environment. How to use technology to help reduce waste? There is no financial incentive to reduce waste. One of a few manufacturers of AI ( arificial intelligence) powered recycling robots. We can imagine a future where waste-collectig robots will move through air land, and water, cleaning our natural environment, workplace environment conveniently. For example, now robots are being put on duty to help solve the environment pollution, material waste, recycling challenges. AI assisted robotis technology that can work with humans in workplace organizational environment to have robots to do a better job at sorting garbage and reduce the building materials is wasted, sorting trash is a dirty and dangerous job, recycling robots may help human to do thin kind of sorting trash job, even further atomic bombs soon could be delivered over intercontinental distances aboard " pick a back" multi-stage rockets by robotis assistance. So, in our future, robotic can be applied on those avoiding resource waste job aspects, such as degradation and resource depletion, reduce, reuse, recycle and recover, have always been needed to avoid resource waste to future global business organizations. When, AI machine learning and robotics could help us, more efficiently organization, digital tools and new business models. How green robots are helping with environmental sustainablity?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A manifesto for a radically different philosophy and practice of manufacture and environmentalism "Reduce, reuse, recycle" urge environmentalists; in other words, do more with less in order to minimize damage. But as this provocative, visionary book argues, this approach perpetuates a one-way, "cradle to grave" manufacturing model that dates to the Industrial Revolution and casts off as much as 90 percent of the materials it uses as waste, much of it toxic. Why not challenge the notion that human industry must inevitably damage the natural world? In fact, why not take nature itself as our model? A tree produces thousands of blossoms in order to create another tree, yet we do not consider its abundance wasteful but safe, beautiful, and highly effective; hence, "waste equals food" is the first principle the book sets forth. Products might be designed so that, after their useful life, they provide nourishment for something new-either as "biological nutrients" that safely re-enter the environment or as "technical nutrients" that circulate within closed-loop industrial cycles, without being "downcycled" into low-grade uses (as most "recyclables" now are). Elaborating their principles from experience (re)designing everything from carpeting to corporate campuses, William McDonough and Michael Braungart make an exciting and viable case for change.

Book Efficient Using Organizational Resources Strategies

Download or read book Efficient Using Organizational Resources Strategies written by Johnny Ch Lok and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-04-09 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ⦁green building avoids resource wasteThe relationship between organization resource and earth resource in behavioral economic view, global organizations use any kinds of resource, such as office, warehouse facility building resource to build any new offices, warehouses, supermarkets, shopping centers, car parks, whether they can bring global building resources reducing number to satisfy human houses living needs, if one day building resources are facing any kinds building material is reducing number, but global applying steel, wood, brick etc. different kinds of building material number increases, when global population number is still increasingm any high houses' building materials need increase, even low wood houses' wood natural resource needs increase in order to let many people can live in the expensive wood houses. SO, it brings this question: Would wood, natural resource, steel, brick resource have shortage supply challenge, due to office, warehouse, shopping center, manufacturer, ther fixed assets number building need increases, but the same time, global houses need number also increases, when polulation increases? Can businessmen their fixed assets: offices, warehouse, shopping centers, factories, supermarkets, etc. building need bring negative impact to influence future human living house resource nu mber decreases? I assume that global businessmen their offices, warehouses, shopping centers, hospitals, private school education organizations, supermarkets etc. business organizations their buildings number is sudden increasing high, due to many organizations can earn more profit to expand their businesses. So, they will need to spend much woods, steels, bricks etc. different kinds nature resources to build any high, height offices buildings in different countries. So, wood, steel brick etc. different kinds of offices building material need must also sudden be influenced to sudden increase by global business organizations increasing number. When global businesses organizations number increases, it will cause global high height offices number increases, because every business organizations must need to rent any building office to operate their businesses. If global has many new businesses are continue growing, they will influence offices building need in possibe, even for food business, e.g. supermarke, restaurant building material need will also increase, if the reestaurant can earn more profit, then it will need to expand itself restaurant vacancy floor to let many food customers do not need to spend long queue time to wait table in order to avoid to loss these food customers, even it will buy any shopping center location to build one or more than one restaurant to satisfy food customers need . So building material needs to the new restaurant design, it may decide to decorate all restaurant location, to feel food customers to feel more comfortable when they are sitting in its restaurant.SO, when the restaurant changes its inside design, it needs to find designers to buy any new building materials to design its restaurant to be new one in order to attract food customer choice.

Book excerpt: • New York Times bestseller • The 100 most substantive solutions to reverse global warming, based on meticulous research by leading scientists and policymakers around the world “At this point in time, the Drawdown book is exactly what is needed; a credible, conservative solution-by-solution narrative that we can do it. Reading it is an effective inoculation against the widespread perception of doom that humanity cannot and will not solve the climate crisis. Reported by-effects include increased determination and a sense of grounded hope.” —Per Espen Stoknes, Author, What We Think About When We Try Not To Think About Global Warming “There’s been no real way for ordinary people to get an understanding of what they can do and what impact it can have. There remains no single, comprehensive, reliable compendium of carbon-reduction solutions across sectors. At least until now. . . . The public is hungry for this kind of practical wisdom.” —David Roberts, Vox “This is the ideal environmental sciences textbook—only it is too interesting and inspiring to be called a textbook.” —Peter Kareiva, Director of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, UCLA In the face of widespread fear and apathy, an international coalition of researchers, professionals, and scientists have come together to offer a set of realistic and bold solutions to climate change. One hundred techniques and practices are described here—some are well known; some you may have never heard of. They range from clean energy to educating girls in lower-income countries to land use practices that pull carbon out of the air. The solutions exist, are economically viable, and communities throughout the world are currently enacting them with skill and determination. If deployed collectively on a global scale over the next thirty years, they represent a credible path forward, not just to slow the earth’s warming but to reach drawdown, that point in time when greenhouse gases in the atmosphere peak and begin to decline. These measures promise cascading benefits to human health, security, prosperity, and well-being—giving us every reason to see this planetary crisis as an opportunity to create a just and livable world.
