Deeper Dating integrates the best of human intimacy theory with timeless spiritual truths and translates them into a practical, step-by-step process.

Book Preparing Leaders for Deeper Learning

Download or read book Preparing Leaders for Deeper Learning written by Marjorie E. Wechsler and published by Harvard Education Press. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An astute assessment of the educational leadership skills and leadership development practices that align with deeper learning in K–12 schools. Preparing Leaders for Deeper Learning spotlights educational leaders as key actors in the urgent task of readying students for college, careers, and citizenship in an evolving world. Marjorie Wechsler and Steven Wojcikiewicz argue that, in response to new understandings of learning and development and emerging societal needs, K–12 school leaders must be able to shift institutions toward deeper learning models, in which collaboration, critical thinking, and project-based learning are fundamental concepts. Through detailed case studies, Wechsler and Wojcikiewicz demonstrate how educational leadership development programs can prepare principals to guide their schools, teachers, and students toward deeper learning and equity. They highlight the approaches of five exemplary leadership preparation programs—the University of Illinois at Chicago, Long Beach Unified School District, Arkansas Leadership Academy, National Institute for School Leadership, and the University of California, Berkley—which together serve educational leaders at all career levels, from initial training for candidates through in-service professional development for seasoned school principals. They identify school structures and classroom practices that enable these programs to confer the skill set needed for deeper learning leadership, and they describe the education policy priorities that can support school leaders in acquiring these necessary skills. This book shows that targeted leadership development is a vital component of transforming schools to create deeper learning opportunities for all students.

Book Modern Vibrational Spectroscopy and Micro Spectroscopy

Download or read book Modern Vibrational Spectroscopy and Micro Spectroscopy written by Max Diem and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Vibrational Spectroscopy and Micro-Spectroscopy: Theory, Instrumentation and Biomedical Applications unites the theory and background of conventional vibrational spectroscopy with the principles of microspectroscopy. It starts with basic theory as it applies to small molecules and then expands it to include the large biomolecules which are the main topic of the book with an emphasis on practical experiments, results analysis and medical and diagnostic applications. This book is unique in that it addresses both the parent spectroscopy and the microspectroscopic aspects in one volume. Part I covers the basic theory, principles and instrumentation of classical vibrational, infrared and Raman spectroscopy. It is aimed at researchers with a background in chemistry and physics, and is presented at the level suitable for first year graduate students. The latter half of Part I is devoted to more novel subjects in vibrational spectroscopy, such as resonance and non-linear Raman effects, vibrational optical activity, time resolved spectroscopy and computational methods. Thus, Part 1 represents a short course into modern vibrational spectroscopy. Part II is devoted in its entirety to applications of vibrational spectroscopic techniques to biophysical and bio-structural research, and the more recent extension of vibrational spectroscopy to microscopic data acquisition. Vibrational microscopy (or microspectroscopy) has opened entirely new avenues toward applications in the biomedical sciences, and has created new research fields collectively referred to as Spectral Cytopathology (SCP) and Spectral Histopathology (SHP). In order to fully exploit the information contained in the micro-spectral datasets, methods of multivariate analysis need to be employed. These methods, along with representative results of both SCP and SHP are presented and discussed in detail in Part II.

Book The Spirit of Utopia

  • Author :
  • Publisher : Stanford University Press
  • Release : 2000-08
  • ISBN : 9780804778855
  • Pages : 326 pages

Download or read book The Spirit of Utopia written by and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2000-08 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am. We are. That is enough. Now we have to start. These are the opening words of Ernst Bloch's first major work, The Spirit of Utopia, written mostly in 1915-16, published in its first version just after the First World War, republished five years later, 1923, in the version here presented for the first time in English translation. The Spirit of Utopia is one of the great historic books from the beginning of the century, but it is not an obsolete one. In its style of thinking, a peculiar amalgam of biblical, Marxist, and Expressionist turns, in its analytical skills deeply informed by Simmel, taking its information from both Hegel and Schopenhauer for the groundwork of its metaphysics of music but consistently interpreting the cultural legacy in the light of a certain Marxism, Bloch's Spirit of Utopia is a unique attempt to rethink the history of Western civilizations as a process of revolutionary disruptions and to reread the artworks, religions, and philosophies of this tradition as incentives to continue disrupting. The alliance between messianism and Marxism, which was proclaimed in this book for the first time with epic breadth, has met with more critique than acclaim. The expressive and baroque diction of the book was considered as offensive as its stubborn disregard for the limits of "disciplines." Yet there is hardly a "discipline" that didn't adopt, however unknowingly, some of Bloch's insights, and his provocative associations often proved more productive than the statistical account of social shifts. The first part of this philosophical meditation--which is also a narrative, an analysis, a rhapsody, and a manifesto--concerns a mode of "self-encounter" that presents itself in the history of music from Mozart through Mahler as an encounter with the problem of a community to come. This "we-problem" is worked out by Bloch in terms of a philosophy of the history of music. The "self-encounter," however, has to be conceived as "self-invention," as the active, affirmative fight for freedom and social justice, under the sign of Marx. The second part of the book is entitled "Karl Marx, Death and the Apocalypse." I am. We are. That's hardly anything. But enough to start.

Book C S Lewis

    Book Details:
  • Author : William Gray
  • Publisher : Liverpool University Press
  • Release : 1998
  • ISBN : 0746309015
  • Pages : 126 pages

Download or read book C S Lewis written by William Gray and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of C.S. Lewis have a wide appeal to a variety of audiences. Lewis is probably most famous for the best-selling The Chronicles of Narnia, although William Nicholson's Shadowlands will have led many readers to Lewis's own account of his tragic bereavement in A Grief Observed. However, Shadowlands represents only a small part of Lewis's controversial life, and omits much that is crucial to an understanding of this fascinating, and in some ways tormented, personality. Lewis enjoyed (to the chagrin of his academic colleagues) a tremendous success as a popular theologian. He was also a successful science fiction writer. And last, but by no means least, he was a brilliant and original academic in the field of English Studies. This book weaves together the very different elements in the complex phenomenon of C.S Lewis, and relates the central concerns of Lewis's life and work to current thinking about postmodernism, psychoanalysis and the idea of 'a new Humanism'.

Book Jungian Psychotherapy and Contemporary Infant Research

Download or read book Jungian Psychotherapy and Contemporary Infant Research written by Mario Jacoby and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infant research observations and hypotheses have raised serious questions about previous mainstream psychoanalytic theories of earliest childhood development. In Jungian Psychotherapy and Contemporary Infant Research, Mario Jacoby looks at how these observations are relevant to psychotherapeutic and Jungian analytical practice. Using recent findings in infant research, along with practical examples from therapeutic practice, he shows how early emotional exchange processes, though becoming superimposed in adult life by rational control and various defenses, remain operative and become reactivated in situations of intimacy. Jungian Psychotherapy and Contemporary Infant Research will be of interest to both professionals and students involved in analytical psychology and psychotherapy.
