Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Une grenade qui explose. Un bonze en torche vivante. 1963, Saigon suffoque.

Book The Media in Arab Countries

Download or read book The Media in Arab Countries written by Tourya Guaaybess and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In early research work on international communication, the countries of North Africa and the Middle East were seen as part of the “Third World”, and the media had to be at the service of development. However, this situation is changing due to the transnationalization and liberalization of the media. Indeed, since the 1990s, the entry of the South – and Arab countries in this case – into the “information society” has become the dominant creed, although the vision is still globalizing and marked by stereotypes. Representations of these societies are closely associated with international relations and geopolitics, characterized by tensions and conflicts. However, a force has come to disrupt the traditional rules of the game: Arab audiences. Digital media, the dissemination of which has been enabled by the implementation of the “information society”, empowers them to participate fully in a media confluence. This liberation from the discourse has two major consequences: the media and journalism sector has become more strategic than ever, and action toward development must be reinvented.

Book The Journalist s Predicament

Download or read book The Journalist s Predicament written by Matthew Powers and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2023-08-22 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low pay. Uncertain work prospects. Diminished prestige. Why would anyone still want be a journalist? Drawing on in-depth interviews in France and the United States, Matthew Powers and Sandra Vera-Zambrano explore the ways individuals come to believe that journalism is a worthy pursuit—and how that conviction is managed and sometimes dissolves amid the profession’s ongoing upheavals. For many people, journalism represents a job that is interesting and substantial, with opportunities for expression, a sense of self-fulfillment, and a connection to broader social values. By distilling complex ideas, holding the powerful to account, and revealing hidden realities, journalists play a crucial role in helping audiences make sense of the world. Experiences in the profession, though, are often far more disappointing. Many find themselves doing tasks that bear little relation to what attracted them initially or are frustrated by institutions privileging what sells over what informs. The imbalance between the profession’s economic woes and its social importance threatens to erode individuals’ beliefs that journalism remains a worthwhile pursuit. Powers and Vera-Zambrano emphasize that, as with many seemingly individual choices, social factors—class, gender, education, and race—shape how journalists make sense of their profession and whether or not they remain in it. An in-depth story of one profession under pressure, The Journalist’s Predicament uncovers tensions that also confront other socially important jobs like teaching, nursing, and caretaking.

Download or read book L valuation de l information Confiance et d fiance written by CAPET Philippe and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Utilisation des images d archives dans l audiovisuel written by CARNEL Jean-Stéphane and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-04-16 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Palgrave International Handbook of Women and Journalism

Download or read book The Palgrave International Handbook of Women and Journalism written by Carolyn M. Byerly and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback for the first time, the Handbook is an academic adaptation of information contained in the Global Report on the Status of Women in News Media, a study commissioned by the International Women's Media Foundation. The book's editor was the principal investigator of the original study. This text draws together the most robust data from that original study, presenting it in 29 chapters on individual nations and three additional theoretical chapters. The book is the most expansive effort to date to consider women's standing in the journalism profession across the world. Contents organize nations in relation to their progress within newsrooms, with those most advanced in gender equality representing diversity in terms of region and national development. Contributing authors are, in most cases, the original researchers for their respective nations in the Global Report study.

Book Digital Information Ecosystems

Download or read book Digital Information Ecosystems written by Dominique Augey and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital information, particularly for online newsgathering and reporting, is an industry fraught with uncertainty and rapid innovation. Digital Information Ecosystems: Smart Press crosses academic knowledge with research by media groups to understand this evolution and analyze the future of the sector, including the imminent employment of bots and artificial intelligence. The book adopts an original and multidisciplinary approach to this topic: combining the science of media economics with the experience of a practicing journalist of a major daily newspaper. The result is an essential guide to the opportunities of the media to respond to a changing global digital landscape. Independent news reporting is vital in the contemporary democracy; the media must itself become a new “smart press”.

Book Femmes Sport et M diatisation en Europe Women Sport and Media Coverage in Europe

Download or read book Femmes Sport et M diatisation en Europe Women Sport and Media Coverage in Europe written by and published by Think tank Sport et citoyenneté. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. About 37% of European women admit they do not practise a sport at least once a week. It is very close to the men's percentage (43%), however, only 7% of broadcasted sport event on TV concern female competitions. This draws attention to and illustrates the general lack of media coverage of women's sport. This is why, in 2010, Sport and Citizenship decided to gather a panel of European experts on the media coverage of women's sport. This book is thus the outcome of three years of exchanges and brainstorming. It provides avenues for reflection aiming to improve women's sport exposure. Among them, it seems that adding more female competitions to the list of major sport events would be particularly pertinent. Indeed, this action would foster free-to-air broadcasting of women's sport and inspire the new generations

However, modern political communication relies on an interdisciplinary base, which draws on concepts from communication, political science, journalism, sociology, psychology, history, rhetoric, and others. This two-volume resource considers political communication from a broad interdisciplinary perspective, encompassing the many different roles that communication plays in political processes in the United States and around the world. The Encyclopedia of Political Communication discusses the major theoretical approaches to the field, including direct and limited effects theories, agenda-setting theories, sociological theories, framing and priming theories, and other past and present conceptualizations. With nearly 600 entries, this resource pays considerable attention to important political messages such as political speeches, televised political advertising, political posters and print advertising, televised political debates, and Internet sites. The audiences for political communications are also central, necessitating concentration on citizen reactions to political messages, how the general public and voters in democratic systems respond to political messages, and the effects of all types of media and message types. Book Dialogue Analysis Units relations and strategies beyond the sentence

Download or read book Dialogue Analysis Units relations and strategies beyond the sentence written by Edda Weigand and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-07-13 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this volume was discussed at a Round Table of the International Association for Dialogue Analysis (IADA) at the University of Bologna in March 1995. The Round Table was intended to make a scientific contribution in honour of the president's 65th birthday. The topic refers on the one hand to the central problem of 'Dialogue Analysis' which is to discover a new, communicatively functioning unit after having left behind the unit of the sentence which can be considered the unit par excellence of structural linguistics. On the other hand, it includes the manifold units, relations, and strategies, i.e. the specific problems of dialogue analysis.
