Download or read book La contractualisation dans les syst mes de sant written by Jean Perrot and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2005 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Evidence Ethos and Experiment

Download or read book Evidence Ethos and Experiment written by P. Wenzel Geissler and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical research has been central to biomedicine in Africa for over a century, and Africa, along with other tropical areas, has been crucial to the development of medical science. At present, study populations in Africa participate in an increasing number of medical research projects and clinical trials, run by both public institutions and private companies. Global debates about the politics and ethics of this research are growing and local concerns are prompting calls for social studies of the “trial communities” produced by this scientific work. Drawing on rich, ethnographic and historiographic material, this volume represents the emergent field of anthropological inquiry that links Africanist ethnography to recent concerns with science, the state, and the culture of late capitalism in Africa.

Book The Conseil Priv and the Parlements in the Age of Louis XIV

Download or read book The Conseil Priv and the Parlements in the Age of Louis XIV written by Albert N. Hamscher and published by American Philosophical Society. This book was released on 1987 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This vol., while encompassing the entire reign of Louis XIV & all the parlements of the realm, has the narrow focus of investigating the impact of royal policy on the judicial authority of the parlements as revealed in their relations with the king's councils, notably the one that specialized in judicial affairs, the Conseil Prive. This is above all a study of the evolution of conciliar jurisprudence & judicial procedure, as much an exercise in what the French call "l'histoire du droit" as an opportunity to observe in a novel way the resolution of some of the most pressing political problems in the Age of Louis XIV. But the overall aim is to understand the practical consequences of royal absolutism for the kingdom's highest judicial institutions.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 Jabuti Book Prize The Zika virus is devastating lives and communities. Children across the Americas are being born with severe disabilities because of it. Yet during the desolating outbreak, Brazil played host to both the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup, leading many to suspect that the true impact of the virus has been subject to a cover-up of international proportions. Beginning in the northeast, where the devastation has been most felt, professor of bioethics and award-winning documentary filmmaker Debora Diniz travels across Brazil tracing the virus’s origin and spread. Along the journey she meets a host of fearless families, doctors and scientists uncovering the virus’s impact on local communities. In doing so Diniz paints a vivid picture of the Zika epidemic, exposing the Brazilian government’s complicity in allowing the virus to spread while championing the efforts of local doctors and mothers who, working together, are raising awareness of the virus and fighting for the rights of children affected by Zika.

Book Rulership in France 15th 17th Centuries

Download or read book Rulership in France 15th 17th Centuries written by Ralph E. Giesey and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-07 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common theme of these essays is the emergence of the modern state in late medieval and renaissance France. They examine, on the one hand, how the image of the king was enhanced in a variety of royal ceremonials as well as in the political writings of Jean Bodin and Cardin le Bret. The limits of the sovereign's authority, on the other hand, were forcefully enunciated in the works of François Hotman and Théodore de Bèze. The stability of the monarchy was maintained by the noblesse de robe, a new form of hereditary nobility that virtually owned the high judicial and administrative offices they held. The last two articles are devoted, first to the author's view of the concept of the French king's "two bodies" and second to the life of his mentor, Ernst H. Kantorowicz, who wrote the seminal work, The King's Two Bodies.

Book excerpt: "In January of 1970, 300 women plaintiffs with 6 women attorneys pressed a suit in Federal Court challenging the constitutionality of New York State's abortion laws. Claiming that abortion laws deny a woman's right to privacy and her right to decide whether or not to bear children, they demanded total repeal of the law rather than liberalization. For the first time in a court proceeding, women testified as to how they were forced to face illegal and unsafe abortions, exorbitant prices and the experience of giving up a child for adoption. Portions of this devastating testimony have been compiled for this book by Diane Schulder and Florynce Kennedy, two attorneys in the suit." -- excerpted from back cover.

Book Resistance Representation and Community

Download or read book Resistance Representation and Community written by European Science Foundation and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 1997 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By focusing on three key aspects of life and change as the European state developed, Peter Blickle brings together a wealth of scholarly experience from all over the continent to discuss the subject's role in State formation. Europe has undergone a remarkable process of democratization sincethe end of the Second World War, shifting the thrust of government policy away from foreign affairs and towards internal matters, and rendering social interest and conflict the driving forces in the historical process. This widespread acceptance of democracy has led to a renewed study of the historyof the estates, and a corresponding increase in debate over the concept of representation. Here the debate is taken further with an examination of the role of the city constitution, and developments in rural settlements. Inextricably linked with the advent of wide-scale representation was an increase in resistance: this book examines the geographical spread of such uprisings, and offers explanations of why revolts were so few in Northern Europe but so prevalent in the Central states. The questions of who gainedfrom the uprisings, and what they contributed to the development of the different forms of representation and community are addressed from a pan-European angle. The cities and villages of the late Middle Ages and early modern period were instrumental in building the political structure of the time. These settlements were determinative of the spirit of community, and a close inspection of these communities throws interesting light on the differences betweenpeasant and burgher morality, and how these norms and values were integrated into the legitimizing of the state. This fascinating work examines the citizen's role in European development with a theoretical and conceptual, but also practical and pragmatic approach. The discussion crosses all national boundaries, and in a Europe which is constantly evolving is a relevant and timely addition to theseries.

Book Glucocorticoid induced Osteoporosis

Download or read book Glucocorticoid induced Osteoporosis written by Andrea Giustina and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Osteoporosis is one of the most clinically relevant disabling chronic disease encountered in clinical practice. A common cause of osteoporosis is glucocorticoid excess, as glucocorticoids may increase bone resorption, inhibit bone formation, have indirect actions on bone by decreasing intestinal calcium absorption and induce hypercalciuria. This book presents a comprehensive overview of the effects of glucocorticoids on bone metabolism and structure and on the diagnosis and treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. It aims at providing updated information on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of this often dramatic complication of glucocorticoid excess. Being one of the few publications completely devoted to glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis it will heighten the awareness of specialists who prescribe glucocorticoids of the clinical relevance of this treatment complication. 'Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis' is addressed to clinical experts as well as to general practitioners who will both benefit from the comprehensive and integrative view of the management of patients exposed to glucocorticoids.
