Book Language Hacking French

Download or read book Language Hacking French written by Benny Lewis and published by Teach Yourself. This book was released on 2017-03-28 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's true that some people spend years studying French before they finally get around to speaking the language. But here's a better idea. Skip the years of study and jump right to the speaking part. Sound crazy? No, it's language hacking. Unlike most traditional language courses that try to teach you the rules of French, #LanguageHacking shows you how to learn and speak French through proven memory techniques, unconventional shortcuts and conversation strategies perfected by one of the world's greatest language learners, Benny Lewis, aka the Irish Polyglot. Using the language hacks -shortcuts that make learning simple - that Benny mastered while learning his 11 languages and his 'speak from the start' method, you will crack the language code and exponentially increase your language abilities so that you can get fluent faster. It's not magic. It's not a language gene. It's not something only "other people" can do. It's about being smart with how you learn, learning what's indispensable, skipping what's not, and using what you've learned to have real conversations in French from day one. The Method #LanguageHacking takes a modern approach to language learning, blending the power of online social collaboration with traditional methods. It focuses on the conversations that learners need to master right away, rather than presenting language in order of difficulty like most courses. This means that you can have conversations immediately, not after years of study. Each of the 10 units culminates with a speaking 'mission' that prepares you to use the language you've learned to talk about yourself. Through the language hacker online learner community, you can share your personalized speaking 'missions' with other learners - getting and giving feedback and extending your learning beyond the pages of the book . You don't need to go abroad to learn a language any more.

Book La Voie de Povret et de Richesse

Download or read book La Voie de Povret et de Richesse written by Glynnis M. Cropp and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2016-05-11 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The allegorical dream-vision poem, La Voie de Povreté et de Richesse, has been known mainly from its incorporation in Le Mesnagier de Paris (1392-94), an anonymous compilation of advice on good living and household management. Composed as an individual work by Jacques Bruyant, probably about fifty years earlier, the poem has now been edited on the basis of the text in the manuscript Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, fr. 1563, fols 203r-221r. It is a first-person account of the dream of a newly-wed husband, who worries about the financial consequences of marriage and the threat of poverty. In long didactic monologues, allegorical figures (Raison, Entendement, and Barat) address the protagonist. He receives the choice of two pathways, one leading to Poverty, the other to Riches. He chooses the path of Diligence, paved with Perseverance, and reaches the château de Labour, for the solution to his problem lies in working to gain sufficiency. In 2634 verses, Jacques Bruyant combined the protagonist’s dream and return home to his credulous wife, with allegorical didactic discourse, and description of work experience. Common sayings and stock pieces, such as an account of the Seven Deadly Sins, are included. Pierre Gringore’s Le Chasteau de Labour, first printed in Paris in 1499, is an adaptation of the poem, marking continued interest in the subject in the fifteenth century.

Book Gender Based Differences in Exposure to and Usage of Camfranglais in Yaound

Download or read book Gender Based Differences in Exposure to and Usage of Camfranglais in Yaound written by Gardy Stein and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-18 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly engaging and innovative book about the Cameroonian youth language Camfranglais explores gender-based differences in exposure to, and usage of, the variety through a comparative study. It thus adopts a rare gender-based approach to the highly complex linguistic phenomenon Camfranglais, a mix of French, Verlan, English, Pidgin and Cameroonian languages. While youth language studies flourish in sociolinguistic research, this book’s explicit focus on female speakers, their linguistic attitudes and experiences of exclusion, is unique. It investigates which factors influence language choice among young, urban speakers and especially what contributes to the overall male dominance in the usage of Camfranglais. To achieve this goal, the attitudes of both adolescents and adults as well as the channels of reproduction and distribution of the variety are examined. A special focus is laid on the processes of conscious transformation and exclusion by which male speakers try to restrict the access for female speakers. The book will appeal to academic scholars from a wide variety of fields, such as (African) linguistics, anthropology, sociology, and gender-studies, as well as the general reader who wants to learn about an exciting language contact scenario and its outcome.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes the development of Rhapsodie, a 33,000-word syntactic and prosodic treebank of spoken French created with the aim of modeling the interface between prosody, syntax and discourse in spoken French. Theoretical foundations and methodological choices are presented and discussed, and compared with other contemporary approaches. Why is a data-driven instead of a corpus-based approach necessary when one wants to model and analyze discourse without neglecting the features typical of everyday speech, in order to capture not only what we say but also how we say it? How can one show that verbal exchange operates as a collaborative enterprise and how can the specific syntactic and prosodic markers of this collaboration be merged? The description proposed in this collective book is of interest for specialists of spoken French studies, and also for scholars who would like to extend Rhapsodie-like annotation schemes to other languages.
