Download or read book The Organic Development of the Liturgy written by Alcuin Reid and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has the Liturgy of the Roman rite developed and changed in history before and after the Council of Trent? What principles have determined the boundaries of legitimate liturgical reform over the centuries? What was the Liturgical Movement? Did Guéranger, Beauduin, Guardini, Parsch, Casel, Bugnini, Jungmann, Bouyer and the Movement's other leaders know and respect these principles? And what is to be said of the not insignificant liturgical reforms carried out by Saint Pius X, Popes Pius IX and Pius XII and Blessed John XXIII in the course of the twentieth century? In The Organic Development of the Liturgy, Dom Alcuin Reid examines these questions systematically, incisively and in depth, identifying both the content and context of the principle of "organic development"-a fundamental principle of liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council's Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium-making a significant contribution to the understanding of the nature of the Liturgical Movement and to the ongoing re-assessment of the reforms enacted following the Council.

Download or read book Les anciens r pertoires de plain chant written by Michel Huglo and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The differences between Old-Roman, Ambrosian, Aquileian, Gallican, and Hispanic chant, and their interconnections with each other and the Gregorian chant occupied Michel Huglo in his early career, although he returned to these questions in the 1980s and 1990s. The present volume, the second in the set of four to be published in the Variorum series, brings all this work together. Huglo's 1954 article, the first to describe the sources for Old Roman chant, recognized as distinct from Gregorian chant, is of primary significance for the historiography of Western plainchant, because it opened the debate on the relationship between Old Roman and Gregorian chant. The final section presents articles on the Latin version of the Akathistos hymn and on Byzantine chants translated into Latin that became part of the Western plainchant repertory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What will our resurrected bodies look like? Will we be young or old? Marked by the physical imperfections of our earthly lives? Does this flesh we carry now rise or is it something other? What does our modern knowledge of the world contribute to our understanding? Brian Schmisek traces developments in the Christian understanding of resurrection, explores the topic in light of biblical data, and mines scientific insights. What results is a synthesis that expresses the essence of the apostolic kerygma in modern terms. Schmisek's impressive combination of solid theological and biblical scholarship with an accessible and welcoming style makes this book an excellent resource for adult education groups, deacon formation classes, undergraduates, and other nonspecialists.

Download or read book Luxury Trades and Consumerism in Ancien R gime Paris written by Robert Fox and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 16th century, Paris has been a leading arbiter of taste and the ultimate source of luxury goods for Europe and the world. However, the origins of the luxury trades of Paris and their role in the wider economic development of France and Europe have been relatively little examined by historians. This volume provides an entry into some of the many questions raised by the growth of the luxury trades, by bringing together eight detailed case studies of specific trades with five more wide-ranging and theoretical contributions. It therefore offers both the results of entirely new research and a range of new perspectives and methodological reflections on the subject as a whole. Essential to economic and social historians of Early Modern France, the book will also be of interest to all students of material culture.
