Book Atlas of the Gulf States

Download or read book Atlas of the Gulf States written by Philippe Cadène and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arab Gulf States possess more than half of the planet’s crude oil reserves, and their gas reserves are immense. The transition from being rental economies to producing economies has caused rapid and significant changes, including the influx of foreign (Arab and Asian) manual laborers, and spectacular urban development, particularly along the coast. This Atlas of the Gulf States contains more than 150 maps and graphs based on recent data. It offers a survey of the history and economic and urban development of the Gulf region. For Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Iran, this atlas offers detailed maps, plans and statistics for the relevant provinces as well as the most important cities. This Atlas is an updated translation from the French edition (2011), with a more extensive bibliography and an index.

Book Small Scale Turbulence and Mixing in the Ocean

Download or read book Small Scale Turbulence and Mixing in the Ocean written by J.C.J. Nihoul and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1988-05-01 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 19th International Liège Colloquium on Ocean Hydrodynamics, the programme of which focused on the relationships between small-scale mixing and large-scale features, transports and processes. The presentation of papers on various methods of parameterization of small-scale turbulent mixing for numerical ocean models was particularly encouraged and this resulted in more than a third of the papers presented at the Colloquium dealing in one way or another with the parameterization problems; many of these papers demonstrate the direct results of modelling. These proportions are well reflected in this volume of proceedings and thus emphasize once more the importance of small-scale turbulence research for such vital practical applications as ocean modelling and forecasting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Stimulating, incisive, insightful, sometimes revisionist, this volume is required reading for historians of comparative colonialism in an age of revolution." —Choice "[An] eminently original and intellectually exciting book." —William and Mary Quarterly This volume examines several slave societies in the Greater Caribbean to illustrate the pervasive and multi-layered impact of the revolutionary age on the region. Built precariously on the exploitation of slave labor, organized according to the doctrine of racial discrimination, the plantation colonies were particularly vulnerable to the message of the French Revolution, which proved all the more potent because it coincided with the emergence of the antislavery movement in the Atlantic world and interacted with local traditions of resistance among the region's slaves, free coloreds, and white colonists.

Book excerpt: Taking account of the Gulf War and the events that followed, this updated paperback provides a country-by-country account of the Gulf in the post-war era. It provides analysis of the social, economic and commercial developments as well as the political history of the region. The book considers the effects of the seventies oil boom on Gulf societies, and shows how the prosperity of that period was followed by a period of economic stagnation which was exacerbated by the Iran-Iraq war. The book also examines the nature and consequences of the economic dependence of the West on the region for oil supplies, and how this governed the response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Finally, there is an account of the Kurdish and Shia uprisings and the attempts to bring peace to the region.

Book Revisiting Hormuz

Download or read book Revisiting Hormuz written by Dejanirah Couto and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2008 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume "Revisiting Hormuz", gathers the proceedings of a Conference organized in March 2007 by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, through its Centre Culturel Calouste Gulbenkian in Paris. The year 2007, exactly five centuries after the Portuguese first landed on the island of Hormuz, seemed to the scientific coordinators Rui Manuel Loureiro and Dejanirah Couto a very appropriate moment to bring together a large group of specialists that could establish the current state of the art in field of the history of Portuguese interactions with Hormuz and the Persian Gulf region. The chronological borders of the Conference, quite naturally, were extended to the early decades of the 17th century, to include the final departure of the Portuguese from Hormuz in 1622 and subsequent developments. Although the focus of the Paris Conference was supposed to be history, in any of its political, social, economic or cultural variants, the complex nature of Portuguese interactions with Hormuz and Safavid Persia, that spanned for more than a century, and also the existence of an important monumental heritage of Portuguese origin in the Gulf area, made the presence of art historians, architects, and archaeologists desirable.

Book Differential Geometry And Topology Proceedings Of The Workshop

Download or read book Differential Geometry And Topology Proceedings Of The Workshop written by Renzo Ilario Caddeo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-08-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the courses and lectures given during the workshop on Differential Geometry and Topology held at Alghero, Italy, in June 1992.The main goal of this meeting was to offer an introduction in attractive areas of current research and to discuss some recent important achievements in both the fields. This is reflected in the present book which contains some introductory texts together with more specialized contributions. The topics covered in this volume include circle and sphere packings, 3-manifolds invariants and combinatorial presentations of manifolds, soliton theory and its applications in differential geometry, G-manifolds of low cohomogeneity, exotic differentiable structures on R4, conformal deformation of Riemannian manifolds and Riemannian geometry of algebraic manifolds.
