Book Atlas of Human Limb Joints

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jacques Guyot
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3662023229
  • Pages : 260 pages

Download or read book Atlas of Human Limb Joints written by Jacques Guyot and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present as completely as possible a description of the joints of the human limbs, using photographs and drawings of anatomical dissections. Existing descriptive anatomical accounts are often theoretical and not linked to functional activity of the joints concerned; they lack practical demonstra tion of the anatomy. We hope to fill the gap in the available literature by presentation of this book. The work is directed towards anatomists, doctors interested in joint pathology, orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, radiologists, specialists in sport injuries and rehabilitation, also to physicians in general, physiotherapists and students. The book is divided into seven chapters. Each chapter comprises two parts: the first is a brief account of the functional anatomy of the joint. It does not offer a complete description but an overall summary of the functional structures involved. The second section, the main part, includes illustrations (drawings and photographs of anatomical dissections). The dissections and the photographs were prepared in the Department of Anatomy directed by Professor HENRI M. DUVERNaY from cadaveric specimens preserved by the method described by WINCKLER (1964). The process of dissecting the ligamentous structures around joints has proved techni cally difficult. It is easy to create artificially structures from the mass of fibrous tissue and on a number of occasions we have been unable to locate ligaments which are described in some anatomical accounts.

Book Ligaments and Ligamentoplasties

Download or read book Ligaments and Ligamentoplasties written by L'Hocine Yahia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite a substantial amount of literature already accumulated on the subject, our understanding of the structure, function, and biology of the cruciate ligaments has yet to reach the point where we can repair this complicated structure. This volume does not attempt to address every aspect of cruciate ligament replacement, but rather chooses to concentrate on the neurological function of the ligaments. It adopts a pragmatic approach to fatigue testing in more physiological conditions, biomimetic designs, European surgical techniques and new approaches derived from tissue engineering. As such, it is the first volume to sufficiently emphasise the progress that has been made outside of North America and follows more closely the SICOT/SIROT philosophy. The first section provides an overview of the increasing amount of knowledge on natural ligaments, while the second one reviews - using a biomimetical approach - the different concepts and designs of artificial ligaments developed over the last few decades. The final section presents new directions to expand our present understanding and suggests future approaches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the experience gained by the Orthopedic Study Group for the Knee (OAK) of the Swiss Orthopedic Society in dealing with knee problems relating to deficiencies of the cruciate ligaments. The editors, R.P. Jakob and H.-U.Staubli, have collaborated with international authorities to produce this ex cellent work dealing with a great many aspects of knee surgery and especially the problems of the cruciate ligaments. For clarity, the book begins with definitions and explanations of basic biomechan ical terms. The chapters on Anatomy and Biomechanics present up-to-date scien tific information based on anatomic and biomechanical principles as they are ap plied in modern knee surgery. The second part of the book focuses on the OAK-sanctioned approach to knee documentation and evaluation, which is a valuable supplement to other knee evaluation schemes. The European Society for Knee Surgery (ESKA) and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) are currently at tempting to combine the advantages of the OAK system with an internationally valid evaluation scheme to create a standard evaluation and documentation sys tem that will be acceptable to all physicians.

Book The Knee

    Book Details:
  • Author : W. Müller
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642617638
  • Pages : 344 pages

Download or read book The Knee written by W. Müller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new treatise is the most outstanding piece of work on the knee and its associated ligaments currently available. Never before have I seen such an extensive study of the biomechanics of the knee with such a comprehensive review of the literature. The first section of the book, which deals with the functional anatomy (structure and biomechanics), immediately alerts the reader to the necessity of understanding the natural develop ment and action of the related structures, clearly emphasizing that successful diagnosis and treatment cannot otherwise be expected; the many who want an easy standard approach to each classic problem may find this hard to accept. Study what Werner Muller has written and compare it with your own findings from repeated dissection of anatomical specimens. The author goes on to stress that to have a real grasp of reconstructive surgery of the ligaments, one must be properly acquainted with the pathology and the repair of acute lesions. In no other way can one learn to recognize chronic problems. Once this step has been mastered it can be seen that the reconstructive procedures that Muller advocates do, for the most part, follow the laws of Nature rather than create the kind of abnormalities which often disrupt natural anatomical func tion.

Book Diagnostic Evaluation of the Knee

Download or read book Diagnostic Evaluation of the Knee written by Michael Strobel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knee surgeons world wide have been aware that a beautifully illustrated book on diagnostic evaluation of the knee existed. What we in the English speaking world did not appreciate was the superb quality of the text that ac companied these splendid illustrations. Now, Dr. Michael Strobel and Dr. Hans-Werner Stedtfeld's work, Diagnostic Evaluation of the Knee, has been translated by Mr. Terry Telger into an English text that is clear and cogent. The authors' message is comprehensive and straight forward. They show how diagnosis of knee disorders lends itself to a disciplined, orderly thought pro cess based on a substantial body of scientific knowledge. This book, through effective illustrations, clarity of text and thought, and subject organization, leads the reader through the diagnostic evaluation of the knee in an enjoy able and unforgettable way. Some may think the diagnostic process is dead with the advent of magnetic resonance imaging. They are wrong: the diagnostic process has never been more alive, and M. Strobel and H.-W. Stedtfeld capture the excitement of modern day diagnosis through the integration of many disciplines - anato my, pathophysiology, general examination, special examinations, and special studies. This is the unique character of this book and why it will be a text ap preciated by all who care for the knee-injured patient.
