Nous débuterons par une exposition analytique du lieu d'apprentissage représenté par la Faculté des Langues et de Traduction à Riyadh, dont nous révèlerons les caractéristiques les plus saillantes comme la compression, la distance et l'apprentissage par cœur. Une évocation du cadre socio-culturel s'imposera d'elle-même en raison des contraintes religio-culturelles qui pèsent sur les contenus d'enseignement. Aussi, une approche lexiculturelle, adaptée contextuellement, a été envisagée pour améliorer l'enseignement-apprentissage de la compréhension écrite. Deuxièmement, nous nous consacrerons à une présentation vécue et critique des contenus d'enseignement exploités pour la compréhension écrite. Nous examinerons notamment comme ils s'ajustent aux modes d'enseignement-apprentissage locaux tout comme ils se prètent diplomatiquement aux contraintes culturelles natives. Nous les comparerons ensuite à des copies d'étudiantes. Deux critères essentiels guideront notre recherche : la reconnaissance visuelle et la compréhension effective, lesquelles s'exprimeront à travers trois degrés de compréhension, global, ciblé et implicite. Enfin, nous finaliserons notre étude en dégageant des propositions méthodologiques alternatives, destinées à doper les capacités de lecture des apprenantes et à rentabiliser qualitativement l'enseignement-apprentissage de la langue-culture en milieu institutionnel. Ces propositions se positionneront sur deux pôles : les stratégies de lecture et les abilités respectives. Celles-ci procureront des pistes aux étudiantes pour aborder des textes inconnus et oeuvreront pour la construction de techniques réceptives en français ; c'est à cet endroit qu'entrera en jeu la lexiculture, une voie d'accès à l'implicite, souvent culurel.

Book excerpt: Notre recherche vise un double objectif : tenter de mesurer la compétence des étudiants saoudiens dans la conversation orale en analysant leurs productions ; introduire une nouvelle procédure dans l'enseignement du français en Arabie Saoudite pour détendre l'atmosphère austère de cet enseignement et pour motiver ainsi les étudiants. A travers l'étude du corpus réalisé auprès des étudiants de niveau avancé, nous avons trouvé que la majorité d'entre eux ont des difficultés prononcées à l'oral : - ils ne parlent pas avec aisance, - ils ont des problèmes à tous les niveaux linguistiques (lexical, grammatical, sémantique, morphologique...), - ils leur manque beaucoup de vocabulaire. Face à cette situation, nous avons senti le besoin de moderniser l'enseignement/apprentissage du français en Arabie Saoudite. Nous avons été dans l'obligation d'innover, d'introduire des documents susceptibles de motiver les étudiants et de retenir leur attention. Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous n'avons pas trouvé mieux que de travailler avec eux sur des documents authentiques sous toutes leurs formes : - écrites : article de journal, petites annonces, notice de médicaments, recette de cuisine... - sonores : revue de presse, match de football, titres d'un journal de radio, chanson... - visuelles : images fixes, roman photo, bande dessinée... - audiovisuelles : journal télévisé, film, pièce de théâtre, match de football... - ludiques : jeux de cartes, de mots, de société... Grâce à leur nouveauté, leur variété et leur aspect divertissant, nous sommes certains que ces documents sont capables de motiver nos étudiants. Effectivement, comme nous l'avons prévu, les documents authentiques ont rapporté leurs fruits. Les étudiants les ont favorablement accueillis. Grâce à cette nouvelle approche et à la nouvelle ambiance ainsi créée, les étudiants ont enfin trouvé les supports qui les encouragent à parler et les aident par conséquent à améliorer leur niveau à l'oral. Ainsi ils ont vraiment eu envie de s'exprimer et de participer aux séances consacrées à l'exploitation des documents. Tout simplement, ils avaient besoin d'être motivés par une nouvelle façon d'aborder l'enseignement. Quand quelque chose de nouveau, de différent, d'intéressant est proposé aux étudiants, on peut s'attendre à une réaction positive de leur part.

Elle débute par un retour sur les relations entre les deux pays à partir de la campagne d’Égypte jusqu’à nos jours. Ces relations furent enrichies par les récits des voyageurs français. L’influence des faits historiques sur le fait francophone et sur l’enseignement du français est ainsi mise en valeur, ainsi que la représentation de la France et de sa langue dans les écrits du Royaume et dans l’opinion des Saoudiens. Cette thèse détaille également les spécificités du milieu culturel saoudien qui vont de la censure aux élites littéraires et au combat pour la modernité. Cette première approche démontre que la présence du français au Royaume fut tributaire d’événements essentiellement politiques. L’intérêt s’est ensuite porté aux revues culturelles saoudiennes. Cinq de ces revues ont été choisies pour leurs couvertures spatiales et temporelles : al-Manhal, Qãfilat al-zayt, al-Maǧalla al-ʿarabiyya, Qawāfil et Nawāfiḏ. Les deux revues al-Manhal et al-Maǧalla al-ʿarabiyya ont été particulièrement attentives à leurs débuts à la littérature française classique, alors que la revue Qãfilat al-zayt portait davantage attention à la littérature d’expression anglaise. Qawāfil et Nawāfiḏ, plus récentes, publièrent en conséquence des textes parfois contemporains. Cette thèse se conclut par une analyse critique de la traduction de deux textes français publiés dans les revues saoudiennes : le poème Le Lac de Lamartine et la nouvelle La fin de Marko Kraliévitch de Marguerite Yourcenar, où l’influence des spécificités culturelles saoudiennes sur les choix en traductologie est analysée.

Notre recherche vise à définir les difficultés des apprenants saoudiens dans la compréhension orale, étudier et analyser l'efficacité utilisée dans l'enseignement universitaire. Donc, nous allons faire un état des lieux de l'enseignement du FLE en Arabie Saoudite et montrer que la compréhension orale est un objectif clé dans tout processus d'apprentissage d'une langue étrangère.

To achieve and maintain the requisite defence-industrial base, in the context of limited domestic orders, Paris sought to promote the export of its arms. During the Cold War, this underpinned but was also an expression of France’s determination to resist bipolar domination. France offered customers around the world an alternative to reliance on one superpower or the other; and in doing so it generated the revenue to support an extensive domestic arms industry. The end of the Cold War ushered in fundamental changes, however: Western defence spending shrank and the global market was turned upside down. While France’s arms-export policy was less affected by human-rights concerns than other democracies, it was not immune to pressures stemming from the consolidation of Europe’s defence-industrial base and the increased interest of the EU in regulating the arms trade. This Adelphi book considers how France has responded to changing political and market circumstances in the way that it promotes and controls the export of weapons. It examines the rationale for considering a liberal arms-export policy as essential to French independence, and the institutional arrangements that underpinned this. It tracks the dramatic changes in the global arms market since 1990, in terms of demand and market competition, and charts the response of the French government to these changes. The book underlines how the French machinery of government, as a directing force behind the defence industry, has been resistant to the notion of export restraint – even in the case of sales to authoritarian regimes. However, it argues that France now faces a dilemma over whether to continue with a long-successful course, or to moderate its independence through greater collaboration to bolster European integration and better compete globally.
