Book The theatre of Tibet

Download or read book The theatre of Tibet written by Antonio Attisani and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2024-04-05T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: he theatrical culture of Tibet is probably the last to remain virtually unknown to the outside world, and to the West in particular. As well as describing the current situation of studies on Tibetan theatre, the current volume also provides an essay on imagination and how it is concretely manifested by the Tibetan people and their actors. Recent decades have seen radical change for Tibetan theatre, ache lhamo, now performed by a diaspora for whom a declining artistic and technical change derives from an uncertain politics concerning secular and popular culture, as well as the ongoing cultural genocide caused by China’s subjection of Tibet.

Book The Seeing Century

  • Publisher : BRILL
  • Release : 2021-10-25
  • ISBN : 9004455035
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book The Seeing Century written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century, with all its turbulence and change, its conflicts and its discoveries was, perhaps above all, the century of cinema, and The Seeing Century offers an innovative, international, and interdisciplinary exploration of the role cinema plays in contemporary life and culture, and the complex and fascinating relationship between screen images and our changing concepts of personal and national identity. Rejecting the compartmentalisation that has traditionally marked film studies, and confronting an impressively eclectic range of material, fifteen essays by leading academics from around the world cut across ‘divergent’ cultures, languages, and genres: mainstream Hollywood rubs shoulders with low-budget Icelandic or Sicilian cinema, and the popular and the esoteric feature alongside each other. In this way, the reader is offered a stimulating overview which directly addresses the contradictions and ambiguities inherent in the relationship between film and identity, and reveals the vibrancy of contemporary film debate, to which The Seeing Century makes an important and thought-provoking contribution.

Book From the Physical Universe to the Metaphysical Cosmos The Quantum Entanglement and Synchronicity of Carl Jung

Download or read book From the Physical Universe to the Metaphysical Cosmos The Quantum Entanglement and Synchronicity of Carl Jung written by Bruno Del Medico and published by Bruno Del Medico Editore. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second greatly expanded edition of the previous booklet "Quantum Entanglement and the Collective Unconscious". It collects the best contributions published by the author in his blogs, social networks and sites in Italian, translated into English. The reader will be amazed at the originality of the arguments. From the happy marriage between quantum physics and Carl Jung's collective unconscious, a new metaphysics of the universe is born and a place emerges in which matter and spirit collaborate and are guided by cosmic synchronicities to lead man towards incredible evolutionary projects. Carl Jung and Wolfgang Pauli worked respectively in the field of psyche and in that of matter. These two sectors are considered absolutely incompatible with each other. In fact, scientific materialism denies the existence of any psychic component in the known universe. Despite the enormous distance between their disciplines, the two scientists established a collaboration that lasted more than twenty years. During that period they never stopped looking for a "unifying element", capable of reconciling, on a scientific level, the reasons of the psychic dimension with those of the material dimension. Unfortunately, they did not achieve this in their lifetime, but they were prophets of a new scientific interpretation of the universe. In fact, the evolution of knowledge in the field of quantum physics, and above all the experimental confirmations of phenomena such as quantum entanglement, re-evaluate their theories. Today the idea of a universe that is not divided into "material objects" emerges strongly. The universe is not divided but consists of a single reality, made up of spirit and matter. This is the reality that Jung and Pauli called "Unus mundus". Matter and psyche have equal dignity and together contribute to the existence of the universe. The editorial series “Cenacolo Jung Pauli” is a place of knowledge and study. We believe it is the most suitable environment to resume work from the point where Carl Jung and Wolfgang Pauli left off. We can affirm that, today, scientific topicality ennobles their research and projects them towards even more daring interpretations than they themselves had imagined. Carl Gustav Jung (1865-1961) was a Swiss psychologist and psychotherapist, well known for his theories on the collective unconscious and synchronicity. Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) is one of the fathers of quantum physics. About Pauli we can say that in the year 1945 he received the Nobel Prize for his studies on a basic principle of quantum mechanics, known as the "Pauli exclusion principle". Finished printing on June 2, 2022 Bruno Del Medico is a blogger, writer, editor, specializing in the dissemination of issues related to social current events and the new frontiers of science. He is the author of many texts related to the recent pandemic and of a specialized series on quantum physics and metaphysics.

Book Femininity

Download or read book Femininity written by Riccardo Dri and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2024-09-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thought-provoking book, the author explores the intricate dynamics of gender identity, challenging conventional ideas about what defines being a man or a woman. The narrative underscores the critical distinction between sex—biological differences—and gender—socially constructed roles. It argues that understanding identity requires recognizing the influence of both biological and cultural factors. The book begins by questioning the validity of traditional gender definitions, proposing that identity is shaped by a complex interplay between nature and culture. It delves into the philosophical aspects of life and death, suggesting that gender identity is not merely a conscious choice but a result of both biological and societal forces. Further, it scrutinizes gender theory, critiquing the notion that gender identity can be chosen independently of biology. The author asserts that while social constructs play a role, biological differences are also crucial in shaping who we are. The text also traces the historical impact of gender roles, highlighting how traditional paradigms have perpetuated inequality and how advancements like birth control have facilitated the emancipation of women. Ultimately, the book advocates for a nuanced understanding of gender identity, emphasizing the need to critically examine societal norms and promote greater equality and autonomy. It calls for philosophical inquiry to challenge ingrained assumptions, offering profound insights for both men and women, though it suggests men, in particular, may gain from its exploration of femininity. This nearly 600-page volume offers a comprehensive analysis that is difficult to condense, but it promises to touch deep layers of our understanding of gender and identity. Woman gives us life, nurtures us, shares intimacy, and embraces us in death, embodying the cycle of existence, which is inherently feminine. Man, emerging from this feminine essence, realizes he is both her son and brother, sharing the human experience. "At this point, why not speak of universal incest? We didn't seek another half but discovered an inseparable entity in the incomprehensible whole. Thus, we were brothers in myth, before incest became sacrilegious." REVIEWS and WORDS OF PRAISE I didn't know what to expect from a book about women written by a man. You expect maybe the usual clichés.... AND REALLY NO, THIS TIME A MAN DID IT. --From Stefania's review, editorial staff of www.leggereacolori.com [This] work did not disappoint me. It definitely held up to expectations, exceeding them. --Review by Martina Tafuri [We] can safely say that his work was judged to be a very informative and engaging read, very well written and sure to intrigue a wide audience. --Austin Macauley Publishers, London and New York

Book An Apocryphal Dictionary of Psychoanalysis

Download or read book An Apocryphal Dictionary of Psychoanalysis written by Giuseppe Civitarese and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Apocryphal Dictionary of Psychoanalysis is a book of transpositions, collecting together the author’s clinical vignettes, enigmatic objects, stray thoughts, projects, images, notes from readings, and musings; but also remarks on films and exhibitions, memories, episodes from daily life, summaries of papers to write, questions, doubts and obsessions - all of which have shaped the author’s understanding of psychoanalysis. Born from moments in which the author has sensed a solution for problems encountered in daily work or for obscure but exciting points of the theory, the entries are ordered in an apocryphal manner, offering a personal and challenging view of psychoanalysis. Like small epiphanies in which there is always an emotion - be it that of amusement, astonishment, gratitude, sadness, joy – they express the style of the analyst and of the person in treating mental suffering and give a glimpse into the imaginary which nurtures it. Ideas for psychoanalysis are outlined where at centre stage is the ability to wait, to be surprised; to operate from the place of the unconscious, which by definition is a place of negativity, and to exercise a form of soft scepticism – ultimately, a mode of hospitality. An Apocryphal Dictionary of Psychoanalysis will be of great use to psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists.

Book Redreaming the Renaissance

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Redreaming the Renaissance seeks to remedy the dearth of conversations between scholars of history and literary studies by building on the pathbreaking work of Guido Ruggiero to explore the cross-fertilization between these two disciplines, using the textual world of the Italian Renaissance as proving ground. In this volume, these disciplines blur, as they did for early moderns, who did not always distinguish between the historical and literary significance of the texts they read and produced. Literature here is broadly conceived to include not only belles lettres, but also other forms of artful writing that flourished in the period, including philosophical writings on dreams and prophecy; life-writing; religious debates; menu descriptions and other food writing; diaries, news reports, ballads, and protest songs; and scientific discussions. The twelve essays in this collection examine the role that the volume’s dedicatee has played in bringing the disciplines of history and literary studies into provocative conversation, as well as the methodology needed to sustain and enrich this conversation.

Book Utopia and Dystopia in Postwar Italian Literature

Download or read book Utopia and Dystopia in Postwar Italian Literature written by Daniele Fioretti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-13 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the presence of utopian and dystopian elements in the Italian literary landscape. It focuses on four authors that are representatives of the various positions in the Italian cultural debate: Pasolini, Calvino, Sanguineti, and Volponi. What did concepts like utopia and dystopia mean for these authors? Is it possible to separate utopia from dystopia? What is the role of science fiction in this debate? This book answers these questions, proposing an original interpretation of utopia and of the social role of literature. The book also takes into consideration four of the most influential literary journals in Italy: Officina, il menabò, il verri, and Nuovi Argomenti, that played a central role in the cultural and political debate on utopia in Italy.

Book Three Loves for Three Oranges

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dassia N. Posner
  • Publisher : Indiana University Press
  • Release : 2021-09-14
  • ISBN : 0253057906
  • Pages : 433 pages

Download or read book Three Loves for Three Oranges written by Dassia N. Posner and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1921, Sergei Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges—one of the earliest, most famous examples of modernist opera—premiered in Chicago. Prokofiev's source was a 1913 theatrical divertissement by Vsevolod Meyerhold, who, in turn, took inspiration from Carlo Gozzi's 1761 commedia dell'arte–infused theatrical fairy tale. Only by examining these whimsical, provocative works together can we understand the full significance of their intertwined lineage. With contributions from 17 distinguished scholars in theater, art history, Italian, Slavic studies, and musicology, Three Loves for Three Oranges: Gozzi, Meyerhold, Prokofiev illuminates the historical development of Modernism in the arts, the ways in which commedia dell'arte's self-referential and improvisatory elements have inspired theater and music innovations, and how polemical playfulness informs creation. A resource for scholars and theater lovers alike, this collection of essays, paired with new translations of Love for Three Oranges, charts the transformations and transpositions that this fantastical tale underwent to provoke theatrical revolutions that still reverberate today.
