Book excerpt: Les produits d'origine biologique représentent un marché en croissance bien que la surface certifiée en agriculture biologique à travers le monde représente moins de 1 % des terres agricoles (certifiées et en conversion). Il atteignait 80 milliards de dollars en 2012 - soit cinq fois plus que son niveau en 2000 - avec une majorité de consommateurs en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. Il bénéficie aussi d'une attention politique plus ou moins marquée en s'intégrant en France dans les objectifs du Grenelle de l'environnement en 2007, et en recevant l'appui de plusieurs rapports de la FAO depuis la même année, mais l'agriculture biologique demeure une absente notoire de l'accord mondial sur le climat signé à Paris en décembre 2015. Malgré une part encore très faible dans la consommation directe des ménages, les produits bio bénéficient d'une image positive, respectueuse de l'environnement, naturelle, et meilleure pour la santé. Alors que les inquiétudes sur l'avenir de la planète se retrouvent régulièrement au centre des débats économiques et politiques, le bio apparaît comme une solution d'avenir pour la santé des hommes et de notre environnement naturel. Néanmoins, devant de telles tendances, on peut se demander si le bio n'est pas simplement un nouveau marché à saisir, un effet de mode durable dont on ne connaît pas encore la durée. En effet, depuis l'esprit des premiers penseurs au label bio européen, de grandes mutations ont eu lieu sous l'appellation "Bio". La reconnaissance officielle du bio a encouragé son développement industriel, parfois très loin des logiques industrielles que le mouvement souhaitait à l'origine préserver. Le grand défi du bio qui se pose alors est de réussir à respecter ses valeurs tout en opérant à plus large échelle. Derrière la philosophie du bio se dessine une vision morale de la nature et une rééducation des pratiques de l'homme face à elle centrées sur des valeurs : prendre le temps d'observer la nature, valoriser le silence et l'écoute attentive, prendre soin de l'existant. Aujourd'hui, il s'agit de savoir si l'industrialisation du bio et le développement du bio-business est compatible avec la préservation de ces valeurs et si elle permet de garantir leur promotion auprès des producteurs et des consommateurs ou si, au contraire, elle les menace.

In October 1993 there have been held two conferences of Western and African philosophers at both universities. Eleven African and nine Western scholars participated as speakers in these conferences. Four African speakers gave lectures at the Vienna and at the Rotterdam conference. The Vienna conference dealt with general questions of postcolonial philosophy in Africa. The conference at Rotterdam focused on the processes of democratization in African countries since 1989. This volume contains the papers of both conferences. Book excerpt: Philosophy of science used to be identified with the logical and methodological analysis of scientific theories, and any allusion to values was considered as a deplorable intromission in a philosophical investigation that should remain strictly epistemological. As a reaction against this view, an opposite «sociological» approach downplayed the usual virtues of scientific knowledge (such as logical rigor and empirical adequacy) as artificial imageries that cover the actual nature of science, that is a social product submitted to all the kinds of social conditionings and compromises. A more balanced view is badly needed today, when technoscience is permeating all aspects of our civilization and wise persons understand that we cannot survive without using science and technology but at the same time we need to steer their development in view of the real benefit of humankind. We must investigate how science, technology and values are legitimately interconnected and, in particular, how the discourses of ethics, politics and religion can enter a fruitful dialogue with science. The essays presented in this volume offer a valuable contribution to this interdisciplinary study.

La restauration de la création aims to examine the status of animals in ancient and medieval Christian thought following an eschatological perspective, that is, focusing on the question of the salvation of animals according to the divine plan. The volume is articulated in three parts: Biblical sources, in particular the promise of the renewal of creation according to Rm 8, 21; Patristic and medieval doctrinal elaborations on the question; finally, contemporary considerations regarding the status of animals in our societies. Often absent from the current social debate on the subject, the historical Christian perspective which this volume proposes is intended as an original contribution to today’s ongoing reflexion on the legal and ethical status of animals.

Aujourd'hui, le bio s'est imposé et ne cesse de se développer, malgré des prix plus élevés qu'en conventionnel. Cela dit, quand il s'industrialise, quand il vient d'ailleurs pour satisfaire la demande croissante, reste-t-il fidèle à lui-même ? Pas sûr. Le bio, ce n'est pas la carotte bio vendue sous film alimentaire par peur des contaminations ; ni l'aubergine bio d'Espagne qui pousse sous serre en hiver, cueillie par des Marocains surexploités ; ni la pomme de terre bio d'Ukraine cultivée dans des champs qui s'étendent à perte de vue... Car, au-delà du simple label, le bio doit aussi porter des valeurs et une éthique. Une dignité. Un humanisme. Au final, le bio est ce que nous en ferons. Un simple label rassurant ou un idéal fédérateur. Attention, danger...
