Book Toxicology of the Pancreas

Download or read book Toxicology of the Pancreas written by Parviz M. Pour and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-07-27 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increased incidence of pancreatic cancer in the Western world and its grave prognosis has resulted in an urgency for research in this area. Until now the available data on toxicology of the pancreas has been few and fragmentary, scattered throughout the literature. A benchmark volume, Toxicology of the Pancreas pulls together information in this neglected area of toxicological research and highlights fundamental research performed in the last ten years. Leaders in the field discuss important structures, the detoxification and toxification process at the cellular and sub-cellular level, the distribution of phase 1 and phase 2 drug-metabolizing enzymes and their role in pancreatic disease, and the role of diet and toxicants on pancreatic disease. The book also covers the role of altered genes in the integrity of the pancreas and explores comparative toxicology in humans and in the lab species used in testing. Illustrated with histological, electron microscopical, and immunohistochemical formats, this book provides a comprehensive and novel presentation of biological and toxicological data. It stands alone as a reliable resource of information easily accessible to professionals in different disciplines.

In respect to typical populations, the role of maternal reflective functioning, language, communication, and educational contexts has been deepened; and the association with internalizing/externalizing behaviors, performances in spatial tasks and pragmatics has been addressed as well. As to atypical populations, deficits in mental states understanding are reported for children with different developmental disorders or impairments, as the agenesis of the corpus callosum, Down Syndrome, preterm birth, Autism Spectrum Disorder, hearing impairment and personality difficulties such as anxiety. Overall, the papers collected in our book allow a better understanding of the mechanisms influencing mental state understanding and the effects of mental state comprehension on development.

Download or read book The Pathogenesis of Pancreatitis written by Joan M. Braganza and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second half of this century has been marked by the evolution of specialities in some branches of medicine, of which gastro-enterology has proved one of the more vigorous and successful. The development of intricate diagnostic and therapeutic techniques has fostered a tendency to overspecialization. In the past decade there has been a move to broaden the outlook. Workers who study the exocrine pancreas, both scientific and clinical, are now concerned not only with the endocrine pancreas but the liver and biliary tract as well because of the close embryological, anatomical and physiological relationships of the pancreas with these organs.
