Book Properties of Matter Vol 5 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Properties of Matter Vol 5 Classic Reprint written by C. J. L. Wagstaff and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Properties of Matter, Vol. 5 Under the title Properties of Matter the author has endeavoured to treat those branches of Physics which are not usually included in books on Light, Sound, Heat, or Electricity. The book is intended for use in Secondary Schools, Technical Schools, and University Colleges, and includes all that is usually, required for a Pass degree. The treatment is experimental, and the use of advanced mathematics has been avoided; but the calculus has been used in places where the avoidance of it leads to tedious calculations. It is hoped that this volume will fulfil a useful function by providing an elementary course of work on the Properties of Matter, from which the more intricate details and the more advanced theory are omitted. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Laws of Physical Science: A Reference Book The data of physical science are readily accessible in several published tables Of physical constants. The mathe maties used in physical science has been summarized, classi fied and formulated, for ready reference, in many published books. The author is not aware, however, of any hand-book or reference work which contains a full list of the general propositions or laws of science. Such reference lists are not without value, and this book has been prepared to fill an obvious gap in the literature of Physical Science. Furthermore, it appears to the author that students in any of the branches of Natural Science will not only find guidance, but will also derive inspiration by having before them under a single [view the very epitome of the world's heritage of the fundamentals of its knowledge and wisdom.' None will question that the fundamentals of science are its laws, principles, theorems and precise state ments of the general properties of matter; but it is not always easy for students in one branch of science to find and to know the literature on important principles and facts in an entirely different, or even' in closely allied branches of science. The author hopes that what has been here gath ered together and classified will help such students in their search and give them the means to broaden their view. We have chosen for a title, Laws of Physical Science but many general propositions, theorems and mere state ments of important facts have been included which perhaps. Book A History of Chemical Theories and Laws Classic Reprint

Download or read book A History of Chemical Theories and Laws Classic Reprint written by M. M. Pattison Muir and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of Chemical Theories and Laws Vwiat classification of the principles of chemistry shall be adopted depends on what is now taken to be the purpose of the science. An examination of the progress of chemistry at different times, in the light of the knowledge we have to-day, seems to me to show that the main purpose of the science has always been the same. Chemistry has concerned itself in the past, as it concerns itself now, with the changes of material things; and, although the aspects of this study have been as varied as those of the transmutations of matter wherewith it deals, the essential object of the study, at all times, may be expressed in the language of to-day as being to describe, to set in due order, and to connect the changes of composition and the changes of properties which occur simultaneously in systems of homogeneous substances, and the conditions under which these changes proceed. The history of the advances which have been made towards attaining this object is the history of the principles of chemistry. The actions of our surroundings on our senses are spoken of as the properties of substances. If all the properties, except, it may be, the masses of any portions of a substance obtained by sifting or sorting that substance are the same. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Matter and Energy The behaviour of matter and energy represents one aspect only of human knowl edge, which is generally known by the name of physical science. It seems well to state at the outset that, throughout these pages, when the term science is employed it refers solely to this one branch. Physical science enjoys the distinction of being the most fundamental of the experimental sciences, and its laws are obeyed universally, so far as is known, not merely by inanimate things, but also by living organisms, in their minutest parts, as single individuals, and also as whole communities. It results from this that, however complicated a series Of phenomena may be and however many other sciences.
