Book excerpt: Laudable Pursuit is an examination of the state of Freemasonry in the United States, and a plan of action for rejuvenating lodges in the 21st century. Based on topics raised in the 1960's by renowned Masonic author, Indiana Past Grand Master Dwight L. Smith - and then promptly ignored by the fraternity ' this new work is intended as a starting point for the future direction of Freemasonry.Written by the Knights of the North, a Masonic "think tank" of new and veteran Freemasons, and edited by Christopher L. Hodapp (bestselling author of Freemasons For Dummies), Laudable Pursuit is presented as a possible course of both progressive and traditional action for those interested in returning Freemasonry to its once noble stature in U.S. society, as well as equipping the fraternity to suit the new century. First presented as a paper before Lodge Vitruvian No.767 in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2005, Masons everywhere have found it to be a thought provoking signpost to the future.

Book Alchemically Stoned The Psychedelic Secret of Freemasonry

Download or read book Alchemically Stoned The Psychedelic Secret of Freemasonry written by P.D. Newman and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-06-21 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: P.D. Newman's bold and daring theory provides a radical interpretation of Masonic symbolism. In the tradition of Wasson, Hofmann and Ruck, in ""The Road to Eleusis: Unveiling the Secret of the Mysteries"" (1978), and Heinrich's ""Strange Fruit: Alchemy, Religion, and Magical Foods"" (1995), Newman suggests that practical psychoactive pharmacology, rather than philosophy, lies concealed in the root of some of our allegories and mysteries. Admitting to being more than a mere theoretician, Newman draws from his own personal experiences, and a wide range of sources, in presenting his theory in a logical manner, which merits consideration. - Arturo De Hoyos, 33* Grand Archivist and Grand Historian Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction

Book A Path to Providence

Download or read book A Path to Providence written by Shaun Bradshaw and published by . This book was released on 2021-10-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masonic Education has regrettably been reduced to teaching protocol, traditions, and catechism while ignoring the esoteric essence of the ritual. Esoteric, from the Latin word esotero originally esoterikos in Greek, simply means secret within or hidden within. Freemasonry's essence is esoteric and is universally defined as a peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory, and illustrated by symbols designed to help a person improve. The primary purpose of Masonic Education should therefore be to assist initiates in delving deeper into the allegories and symbols at the core of Freemasonry's rituals. In doing so, they are encouraged to each draw their own designs to become a "better person", i.e., a free builder. Will Freemasonry rise to the challenge now as it did in the past? Given current conditions in the United States, we will need the concerted efforts of many free, enlightened, and engaged citizens who are committed to build more beautiful, stronger, and wiser selves and communities. I am confident the Middle Chamber Program will be a powerful tool in the noble effort to arouse the spirit and mind, to awaken the creative energies of large numbers of initiates by connecting them to the Freemasonry's hidden mysteries. Welcome to the Mystic Tie!

Book Myth Magick and Masonry

Download or read book Myth Magick and Masonry written by Jaime Lamb and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In MYTH, MAGICK & MASONRY, Jaime Paul Lamb develops four thought-provoking interpretations of the symbolism and allegorical content of Freemasonry and some of its appendant bodies. By viewing the craft through the interpretive lenses of ceremonial magick, solar and astrological lore and symbolism, classical mythology and the Roman Mystery cult, Mithraism, Lamb establishes four distinct vantage points from which to survey Freemasonry. Thereby, Jaime Paul Lamb enables Masons, new and old, to develop a more nuanced appreciation of the Craft and a deeper understanding of the Fraternity's priceless initiatory heritage.

Book Commanding Hope

  • Author : Thomas Homer-Dixon
  • Publisher : Vintage Canada
  • Release : 2022-06-14
  • ISBN : 0307363171

Download or read book Commanding Hope written by Thomas Homer-Dixon and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calling on history, cutting-edge research, complexity science and even The Lord of the Rings, renowned thought leader Thomas Homer-Dixon lays out the tools we can command to rescue a world on the brink. For three decades, Thomas Homer-Dixon, author of The Ingenuity Gap and The Upside of Down, has examined the threats to our future security—predicting a deteriorating global environment, extreme economic stresses, mass migrations, social instability and wide political violence if humankind continued on its current course. He was called The Doom Meister, but we now see how prescient he was. Today, just about everything we've known and relied on (our natural environment, economy, societies, cultures and institutions) is changing dramatically—too often for the worse. Without radical new approaches, our planet will become unrecognizable as well as poorer, more violent and more authoritarian. In his latest work (dedicated to his young children), he calls on his extraordinary knowledge of complexity science, of how societies work and can evolve, and of our capacity to handle threats, to show that we can shift human civilization onto a decisively new path if we mobilize our minds, spirits, imaginations and collective values. Commanding Hope marshals a fascinating, accessible argument for reinvigorating our cognitive strengths and belief systems to affect urgent systemic change, strengthen our economies and cultures, and renew our hope in a positive future for everyone on Earth.

Book Searching for Self in Pursuit of Inner Peace

Download or read book Searching for Self in Pursuit of Inner Peace written by K R V HARI and published by Pencil. This book was released on 2020-12-25 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book: This book explores our ideas of self, repeatedly revealing "who we are not" to gently bring us into peace without attempting to alter our external conditions. It is well known that when we dissociate ourselves from all our worldly identities, we will naturally come to peace. This book lays out a clear roadmap to achieve enduring peace through detachment. But detachment does not mean renouncement of all types of pleasures and living a life of inactivity and boredom. In truth, detachment can relieve us of all the burdens and baggage we carry, leaving us free to enjoy all the genuine pleasures available on earth to the fullest. The only condition is that we must not cling to the pleasures but be ready to let them go freely. Hence our life here can be one of unending joy and achievement. About the Author: Born in 1960 in the rich culture of South India and educated in English, he was exposed to two opposing world views enabling him to achieve synergy and realize true harmony. He belongs to the linguistic community "Saurashtra" who were silk weavers patronised by kings of yore. His ancestors are said to have migrated from the western part of India to Tamil Nadu in the south several centuries ago. Born to a father who served in the lower ranks of the Indian Central Government and a mother who was less educated, he was brought up by his grandmother, a very traditional woman, in the extended family. With his two younger brothers he was afforded English education from the beginning that enabled him to become fluent in the language right from his childhood. Graduating in Agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore in 1982, he secured the prestigious position of Probationary Officer in State Bank of India, the premier bank in India. After a dedicated service of over two decades, he ventured out on his own to learn about real life outside the cocoon of privileged living that his parents and his job had offered him till then. Growing up in the country as India underwent its pangs of Westernisation, he was able to synthesise the self-oriented Western perspective with the community oriented native one to arrive at a wholesome concept of self after considerable efforts and experimentation. This book is the culmination of decades of efforts in discovering his real place in the world. Married to Vijayashree with a daughter Meenalochani, who has gifted him with a lovely granddaughter, he lives in the Southern Indian cities of Bangalore and Coimbatore with his family and his aged aunt.

Book excerpt: Marked by continuity, renewal, and expansion, the image of the Dream, Jillson contends, has been remarkably constant since well before the American Revolution - an image of a nation offering a better chance for prosperity than any other. His book reveals how that Dream has motivated our nation s leaders and common citizens to move, sometimes grudgingly, toward a more open, diverse, and genuinely competitive society.

Book The Upswing

Download or read book The Upswing written by Robert D. Putnam and published by Simon & Schuster. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of Bowling Alone and Our Kids, a “sweeping yet remarkably accessible” (The Wall Street Journal) analysis that “offers superb, often counterintuitive insights” (The New York Times) to demonstrate how we have gone from an individualistic “I” society to a more communitarian “We” society and then back again, and how we can learn from that experience to become a stronger, more unified nation. Deep and accelerating inequality; unprecedented political polarization; vitriolic public discourse; a fraying social fabric; public and private narcissism—Americans today seem to agree on only one thing: This is the worst of times. But we’ve been here before. During the Gilded Age of the late 1800s, America was highly individualistic, starkly unequal, fiercely polarized, and deeply fragmented, just as it is today. However as the twentieth century opened, America became—slowly, unevenly, but steadily—more egalitarian, more cooperative, more generous; a society on the upswing, more focused on our responsibilities to one another and less focused on our narrower self-interest. Sometime during the 1960s, however, these trends reversed, leaving us in today’s disarray. In a sweeping overview of more than a century of history, drawing on his inimitable combination of statistical analysis and storytelling, Robert Putnam analyzes a remarkable confluence of trends that brought us from an “I” society to a “We” society and then back again. He draws inspiring lessons for our time from an earlier era, when a dedicated group of reformers righted the ship, putting us on a path to becoming a society once again based on community. Engaging, revelatory, and timely, this is Putnam’s most ambitious work yet, a fitting capstone to a brilliant career.
