Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops the principles and practice of laser radar system design by examining sensor technology across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. This new book discusses the similarities and differences between microwave and optics technologies. It combines a microwave radar system treatment of the range equation, target cross-section and measurement principles with an optical receiver discussion which illustrates differences in system noise mechanizations. The presentation also includes theoretical and hardware considerations which illustrates systems utilized to provide altimetry, rangefinding, target designation and imaging, as well as laser radar systems providing instantaneous six-dimensional target information.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, the range of technologies with the potential to threaten the security of U.S. military forces is extremely broad. These include developments in explosive materials, sensors, control systems, robotics, satellite systems, and computing power, to name just a few. Such technologies have not only enhanced the capabilities of U.S. military forces, but also offer enhanced offensive capabilities to potential adversaries - either directly through the development of more sophisticated weapons, or more indirectly through opportunities for interrupting the function of defensive U.S. military systems. Passive and active electro-optical (EO) sensing technologies are prime examples. Laser Radar considers the potential of active EO technologies to create surprise; i.e., systems that use a source of visible or infrared light to interrogate a target in combination with sensitive detectors and processors to analyze the returned light. The addition of an interrogating light source to the system adds rich new phenomenologies that enable new capabilities to be explored. This report evaluates the fundamental, physical limits to active EO sensor technologies with potential military utility; identifies key technologies that may help overcome the impediments within a 5-10 year timeframe; considers the pros and cons of implementing each existing or emerging technology; and evaluates the potential uses of active EO sensing technologies, including 3D mapping and multi-discriminate laser radar technologies.

Book Large Aperture Array Radar Systems for Automotive Applications

Download or read book Large Aperture Array Radar Systems for Automotive Applications written by Fabian Schwartau and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The radar, besides camera and Lidar systems, is a core sensor to enable autonomous driving. The relatively limited angular resolution is the major drawback of the radar. This thesis shows the development of a conceptual future radar system for automotive applications. The focus is on providing a large antenna aperture to achieve the required high angular resolution. Two genetic algorithms are developed to optimize the antenna array for a good side lobe level while providing high angular resolution. Two demonstrators are built to implement certain aspects of the proposed radar system and prove the general concept viable. The first demonstrator features a large aperture with a limited side lobe level and is using a modular approach. The modules are synchronized with a radio over fiber system. The second demonstrator uses the previously proposed antenna array, which is implemented with a synthetic aperture radar approach. The system’s capabilities in a real scenario are demonstrated, and the reconstruction of a high-resolution three-dimensional image from the captured data is shown.

Download or read book Radar and Laser Cross Section Engineering written by David C. Jenn and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 2005 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been many new developments in the ten years since the first edition of Radar and Laser Cross Section Engineering was published. Stealth technology is now an important consideration in the design of all types of platforms. The second edition includes a more extensive introduction that covers the important aspects of stealth technology and the unique tradeoffs involved in stealth design. Prediction, reduction, and measurement of electromagnetic scattering from complex three-dimensional targets remains the primary emphasis of this text, developed by the author from courses taught at the Naval Postgraduate School. New topics on computational methods like the finite element method and the finite integration technique are covered, as well as new areas in the application of radar absorbing material and artificial metamaterials. Matlab [registered] software, homework problems, and a solution manual (available to instructors) supplement the text. Written as an instructional text, this book is recommended for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. introduction to the physics and mathematics of radar cross section in order to better understand the interdisciplinary aspects of stealth. Book Automotive Radar Sensors in Silicon Technologies

Download or read book Automotive Radar Sensors in Silicon Technologies written by Vipul Jain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the leading causes of automobile accidents is the slow reaction of the driver while responding to a hazardous situation. State-of-the-art wireless electronics can automate several driving functions, leading to significant reduction in human error and improvement in vehicle safety. With continuous transistor scaling, silicon fabrication technology now has the potential to substantially reduce the cost of automotive radar sensors. This book bridges an existing gap between information available on dependable system/architecture design and circuit design. It provides the background of the field and detailed description of recent research and development of silicon-based radar sensors. System-level requirements and circuit topologies for radar transceivers are described in detail. Holistic approaches towards designing radar sensors are validated with several examples of highly-integrated radar ICs in silicon technologies. Circuit techniques to design millimeter-wave circuits in silicon technologies are discussed in depth.
