Book De mujeres hist ricas a historiadoras

Download or read book De mujeres hist ricas a historiadoras written by Carolina Abadía Quintero and published by Universidad del Valle. This book was released on 2023-05-15 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Women s Writing in Colombia

Download or read book Women s Writing in Colombia written by Cherilyn Elston and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-20 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Montserrat Ordóñez Prize 2018 This book provides an original and exciting analysis of Colombian women’s writing and its relationship to feminist history from the 1970s to the present. In a period in which questions surrounding women and gender are often sidelined in the academic arena, it argues that feminism has been an important and intrinsic part of contemporary Colombian history. Focusing on understudied literary and non-literary texts written by Colombian women, it traces the particularities of Colombian feminism, showing how it has been closely entwined with left-wing politics and the country’s history of violence. This book therefore rethinks the place of feminism in Latin American history and its relationship to feminisms elsewhere, challenging many of the predominant critical paradigms used to understand Latin American literature and culture.

Download or read book Female Well Being written by Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban and published by Zed Books Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This global survey starts from the assumption that the significant transformations in women's lives deserve to be fully documented and interpreted. Janet Mancini Billson and Carlyn Fluehr-Lobban tackle the complexities of social change by using data from countries in every world region to illustrate the most critical challenges that women faced during the last century - challenges that are also likely to shape the 21st century. Global knowledge and feminism dovetailed in the 20th century, fed by international air travel, telecommunications, the internet, and a growing awareness that solving female oppression would improve the lot of all humankind. The authors therefore adopt a strong international, comparative, cross-cultural, and feminist framework that uncovers the fundamental processes that promote, sustain, or degrade the female condition. At the heart of Female Well-Being are case studies written by country teams of scholars, educators, and policy analysts, in Canada, The United States, Colombia, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Croatia, Japan, Bangladesh, Thailand, South Africa, and Sudan. Female well-being is measured by analysing trends in infant mortality, maternal mortality, literacy, life expectancy, education, work, income, family structure, and political power. These trends are contextualised in the light of the century's major events, legislative initiatives, social policies, and leadership, to illustrate the processes that enhance, sustain, or detract from the female condition. This book will be a critical resource for academics, development experts and policy analysts.

Book Women s Lives around the World 4 volumes

Download or read book Women s Lives around the World 4 volumes written by Susan M. Shaw and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 2425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an in-depth look at the lives of women and girls in approximately 150 countries, this multivolume reference set offers readers transnational and postcolonial analysis of the many issues that are critical to the success of women and girls. For millennia, women around the world have shouldered the responsibility of caring for their families. But in recent decades, women have emerged as a major part of the global workforce, balancing careers and family life. How did this change happen? And how are societies in developing countries responding and adapting to women's newer roles in society? This four-volume encyclopedia examines the lives of women around the world, with coverage that includes the education of girls and teens; the key roles women play in their families, careers, religions, and cultures; how issues for women intersect with colonialism, transnationalism, feminism, and established norms of power and control. Organized geographically, each volume presents detailed entries about the lives of women in particular countries. Additionally, each volume offers sidebars that spotlight topics related to women and girls in specific regions or focus on individual women's lives and contributions. Primary source documents include sections of countries' constitutions that are relevant to women and girls, United Nations resolutions and national resolutions regarding women and girls, and religious statements and proclamations about women and girls. The organization of the set enables readers to take an in-depth look at individual countries as well as to make comparisons across countries.

Book Colombian Women

    Book Details:
  • Author : Elena Garcés
  • Publisher : Lexington Books
  • Release : 2008-08-15
  • ISBN : 0739130110
  • Pages : 279 pages

Download or read book Colombian Women written by Elena Garcés and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2008-08-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From her personal diary as an eleven-year-old in a Catholic girl's school, in which she chastises herself for the sin of wearing a bathing suit, through erudite analysis of the patriarchal structures on which most world communities stand, Elena GarcZs examines culture, history, economics, law, and religion as they apply to her native Colombia. In so doing, she promotes ideas which demolish the 'forced enclosure' of women in that society. Eighteen Colombian women, selected at random from many regions and ethnicities, and from up and down the socioeconomic ladder, tell life stories almost universally tragic, regardless of the wealth, education, age, or status derived from positions held by their husbands. Their experiences, in particular the ways in which family and institutions are used against them, illustrate the feminist theories around which GarcZs shapes her arguments. This book will be ideal for undergraduate students of Women's Studies, Latin American Studies, Religion, and Sociology. It will also appeal to scholars interested in the welfare and development of women.
