Su especial carácter y lo peculiar de su biografía aproximan al porqué del capital formidable que invirtió en él, aun siendo consciente del delicado estado financiero del país y el de su propia casa. No obstante, son escasas las joyas que actualmente pueden reconocerse y con toda seguridad atribuirse a su propiedad. Gran parte de la colección desapareció en ventas y préstamos a consecuencia de sus desmanes económicos, además de la inevitable dispersión de las restantes al ser repartidas entre los herederos tras su fallecimiento, acaecido en 1904. El presente trabajo analiza, en orden cronológico, las alhajas que ingresaron en el joyero de la reina por medio de adquisiciones, herencias o regalos, así como aquéllas que dejaron de pertenecerle por haber sido obsequiadas, deshechas, extraviadas o, como ya se ha comentado, vendidas. Destacada importancia cobraron las alhajas ejecutadas por los artífices más afamados, tanto españoles como extranjeros. Muchos compartieron la honra de disfrutar de cargo, en ocasiones sólo honorífico, en la Real Casa, o de tener permitido el uso de las armas reales en sus facturas; pero también la preocupación por los adeudos contraídos por la soberana, que hicieron peligrar sus negocios. Desde París, epicentro de la elegancia y la sofisticación, se difundieron las novedades que caracterizan a la joyería del siglo XIX, perfectamente reconocibles en las joyas de Isabel de Borbón, las cuales pueden resumirse en la predilección por los motivos inspirados en la naturaleza, la exaltación de lo sentimental, la utilización de novedosos materiales y técnicas a consecuencia del progreso industrial, la influencia a todos los niveles del colonialismo o la emulación de los modelos del pasado...

Bee and her husband Ali were more popular, although personal differences between them and the King resulted in their temporary exile for the first years of their marriage. They later returned to Spain, staying there for the rest of their lives. Bee died in 1966 and Ena three years later. This dual biography, written by Anna de Sagrera with additional material from Doña Beatriz, Bee’s granddaughter, looks in depth at the friendship of the mutually supportive cousins against the often-turbulent background of 20th century Spanish politics.

He considered it his most important work, continuing with it when he moved to Argentina. He had not finished the work when he died in 1946. Ernesto Halffter completed the orchestration after the composer's death.
