El Estado español reconoce, en cierto modo, la complejidad milenaria de la estructura jurídica interna de la Iglesia católica al publicar la Resolución de 3 de diciembre de 2015, de la Dirección General de Cooperación Jurídica Internacional y Relaciones con las Confesiones, sobre inscripción de entidades católicas en el Registro de Entidades Religiosas, en modo análogo a cuando publicó la Resolución de 11 de marzo de 1982, de la Dirección General de Asuntos Religiosos, sobre inscripción de Entidades de la Iglesia católica en el Registro de Entidades Religiosas un año después de la promulgación del RD 142/1981. Estas circunstancias normativas permiten plantear la cuestión acerca de si la reforma de 2015 responde suficientemente a la estructura jurídica particular de la Iglesia católica y a su compleja realidad; y, si la respuesta es afirmativa, determinar cuáles son los aciertos, problemas y soluciones...

Countries with strong cultural traditions focused on a majority religion tend to adopt an "identification model," where instruction is provided only in the tenets of the majority religion, often to the detriment of other religions and their adherents. Countries with traditions that differentiate church and state tend to adopt a "separation model," thus either offering instruction in a wide range of religions, or in some cases teaching very little about religion, intentionally leaving it to religious institutions and the home setting to provide religious instruction.
