We can also consider Mediterranean worlds within an open enactive process, deeply exploring their evolution between nature and culture, examining the natural environment and the transforming relationships between humans and non-humans. The writers and researchers in Re-storying Mediterranean Worlds call for a dialog between the two coasts in order to connect what has been broken. In this volume, they highlight an intercultural and creolized conscience, traversing the Mediterranean worlds – including Italian, French and Tunisian cultures, but also migrations from, to and within the region – and transcending any idea of communitarian withdrawal. These essays express the urgent need to shift from an understanding of migration as suffering to the notion that mobility is an unalienable right, building foundations for a new idea of global citizenship.

Book excerpt: As a result of migration, more than 25% of Romanian L1 speakers live outside of Romania and Moldova - mostly in other European countries, but also in America and Australia. In the meantime, many second-generation speakers have become part of this group. The situation has resulted in various different constellations of language contact, both within the group of Romance languages and amongst typologically different and unrelated languages. Despite the fact that these contact scenarios present a wide range of research perspectives, there have been hardly any studies on Romanian as a language of migrants up until now. The volume Romanian in the Context of Migration brings together contributions on the Romanian language in Europe and in North America in the context of current migration linguistics. It includes studies on Romanian in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain and on the Romanian of those who return to Romania and Moldova. Über 25 % der Sprecher mit Rumänisch als L1 leben heute - infolge der Migration - außerhalb von Rumänien und der Republik Moldau, zumeist in anderen Ländern Europas, aber auch in Amerika und Australien. Inzwischen sind zahlreiche Vertreter der 2. Generation hinzugekommen. Aus dieser Situation ergeben sich unterschiedliche Konstellationen von Sprachkontakt, sowohl innerromanisch als auch mit typologisch verschiedenen und nicht verwandten Sprachen. All diese Kontaktszenarien eröffnen vielfältige Forschungsperspektiven. Dennoch gibt es bislang kaum Untersuchungen zum Rumänischen als Sprache von Migrantinnen und Migranten. Der Sammelband Romanian in the Context of Migration vereint Beiträge zum Rumänischen in Europa und Nordamerika im Kontext der aktuellen Migrationslinguistik. As descendants of migrants, ‘second’ and further generations often struggle to establish an unproblematic belonging in/to a resident homeland, as the place where they live and work but are often categorized as ‘outsiders’. Simultaneously, because of improving access to travel, they can also maintain a physical presence in an ancestral homeland. However, their encounters there may also problematize their sense of belonging. During their summertime visits to Morocco, the European-Moroccan participants in this ethnography repeatedly find themselves negotiating a sense of belonging in the ‘homeland’. This book analyzes how these negotiations take place in order to investigate how the categories of ‘diasporic’ and ‘Moroccan’ become shaped by the interactional encounters observed. In the setting of Morocco, where trajectories to and from Europe have colored several centuries of history, this book provides a framework to explore how migration and return become incorporated into contemporary ‘Moroccanness’.
