Book Lady in Red Where Is Your Head

Download or read book Lady in Red Where Is Your Head written by Carolann deBellis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lady in Red,Where is Your Head? by first-author Carolann deBellis, tells the story of a woman who survived a brain injury and a coma after a car accident on an icy New Jersey Turnpike in 1987, when she was 34. Carolann had it all, the perfect life, before the accident-a great job at a hot Philadelphia salon, a passionate 12-year marriage and a wide circle of friends and family who marveled at her energy and infectious spirit. Then, in the aftermath of the near-death accident, she lost it all-job, husband and sense of self. After learning to walk, talk and cut hair again, she faced the life-long task of going beyond recovery, beyond recreating the person she was before the accident to aspire for something better. Psychological counseling and the support of a loving circle of family and friends helped her to see that all was not perfect before the accident, helped her redefine a new Carolann, a work in progress whos less self absorbed and more self aware, less controlling and more open in her relationships with men in her life. If it werent for the imperative, painful job of remaking herself physically, cognitively and emotionally from a child-like state after the accident, Carolann might never have undertaken the intense personal journey that leads her today, at 57, to say I thank God my brain injury cured me. More than a conventional memoir or self-help guide, Lady in Red stitches together Carolanns own words, a diary that her cousin Michael Biello wrote during her coma and rehabilitation, hospital documents, notes from nurses and visitors and Carolanns collection of inspirational quotes. I wrote and rewrote this book over 20 years to help others who have suffered or know someone who has suffered a brain injury, Carolann says. Certainly those directly or indirectly affected by a traumatic brain injury will benefit from reading her book, but so will anyone who believes its never too late to re-examine yourself and get to work making yourself a better person. "with a closed-head injury that left her in a coma for ten days, among other injuries. She writes of the aftermath of her memoir, Lady In Red Where Is Your Head." - Blueink Review "honesty sheds light on the harsh realities of brain injuries and how a life can be forever changed." -Foreword Reviews "Both sources provide information about her progress and also illustrate how much her friends and family loved and cared for" - Kirkus Reviews

Book excerpt: In this ninth and final novel in the Gideon Detective Series, Vincent James Gideon, after retiring five years earlier to spend his senior years fly fishing on the Portland River, elects to take on one more case for the Black Rock Cove Police Department. Little did he know it would be the most unusual case the veteran detective has ever agreed to unravel. Sebastian Westfield, the grandson of Connor Westfield, is living life in style with the hefty allowance given to him monthly by his grandfather. The problem is, one night started like all the rest, with his arrival at Sid's Cabaret in Portland, the home of famed theater star, Valentina Clemente. When the evening first started, he could remember everything. However, the next instant, his mind goes blank. He can't remember what happened the rest of the night when an assassin took his grandfather's life in Black Rock Cove, or how he ended up on the floor of an abandoned farmhouse a few hundred yards away from his grandfather's house the next morning. As he awoke, he sensed a chill in the air, a shimmer of mist. The trees of the forest by the lake became slightly out of focus, like that of a poorly taken photograph. It wasn't until Sebastian got closer, it congealed into a form… a woman dressed in red with silver skin and a predator's smile. All became silent while he watched the woman skirt along the edges of the stagnant lake. Then, without warning, he found himself on his back, looking up at a person wearing a red and black ski mask. He shook his head back and forth and heard the words from what he thought was the woman in red, but the words were said in a man's voice with a rasping tone of a one-pack a day smoker. "Have you come to play, Sebastian?" Sebastian couldn't find words to say and only opened his mouth to scream. Then without warning, he found himself back on the dilapidated and deserted farmhouse floor. Abruptly, a chill rose up his spine making him shiver. Something was here with him. He could feel it! A voice, hoarse and faint echoed around him, coming from the adjacent room in the farmhouse. Sebastian slowly turned his head over his shoulder, and the whispering came to a stop. The air chilled to ice and his labored breathing was the only sound he could hear. It was hanging down from the ceiling, crawling ever so slowly, closer and closer… dark and brooding. Crick. Creakkkk. Screechhhhh. "Stop it! You're not real. Leave me alone!" Sebastian had played in the old farmhouse as a child and knew it was but a few hundred yards to his grandfather's house. Without hesitation, he rushed out the door and hurried down the pathway, his heart pounding the entire way. The sun already climbed into the morning sky. On reaching the courtyard, he stopped and vividly pictured the old place during his childhood. The walls didn't seem so gray when he was a young boy, nor did they look so small. In his mind, he pictured the place as though it were a castle where his cousin and he were the prince and princess of the home. The door opened. Mister Albert was there with the bad news. "Mister Sebastian, where have you been? Your grandfather has been murdered!"

I have woven the Lady in Red on the assumption that she is a product of his paranoia. The story line, I hope, will bring the public to an awareness of addicts and the things they do when they are high and ingesting drugs. The story is very explicit and complete with mystery and science fiction overtures. My story takes place in a ghetto in Brooklyn, New York, around the late 1980s, a time when crack cocaine was strongly used. Although other addicts and their highs are being depicted, it is only to give the reader a sense of how things play out in the drug world as opposed to the real world. Basically, I am trying to bring science fiction to the ghetto in a more believable sense. Along with the mystery of the Lady in Red, there is another main character that comes into play, and his name is James. James is a mystery within himself. To go into more detail about my story and its characters, you will just have to read my story.

Book excerpt: She was going to kill him. But what seemed like a brilliant idea a few hours ago did not look so good now. She was not a criminal, was she? She'd never killed before. Ever. And she meant not even a spider or a cockroach or a mosquito, although they were as annoying as her husband sometimes! In truth, she hated violence. She always closed her eyes at the gory scenes in movies or even on the news! So how was she going to do this? Meet Anna-Maria, the true-to-life character in Isabelle Actis' first murder story. The journey into a couple's rocky marriage, their realistic flaws, ambitions, dreams and disappointments will hold your attention from the very beginning and the suspense will keep you turning the pages to the unexpected end. The author, a long-time ESL teacher, wrote Murder She Thought with readers whose first language is not English in mind. This book is a genre in itself, a cross between a "classic" murder mystery and an English Reader. The language is "true-to-life" American English and has been left to flow in as natural a way as possible. Sentences are simple and the vocabulary has been carefully selected to make reading easier. As a special feature, an explanation of the more difficult or unusual words has been provided, so the less proficient readers do not have to spend time looking up words in the dictionary. Murder She Thought is a refreshing story and a thoroughly enjoyable read, even for native English speakers.
