Book Oceanography of the Grand Banks Region and the Labrador Sea in 1964

Download or read book Oceanography of the Grand Banks Region and the Labrador Sea in 1964 written by Ronald C. Kollmeyer and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five oceanographic surveys were conducted in the vicinity of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland in support of International Ice Patrol operations in 1964. Measurements of temperature and salinity obtained from serial Nansen observations were used to determine the dynamic topography, a principal factor in studying the most probable drift of icebergs endangering shipping in this area. Later analysis of selected oceanographic sections was accomplished to calculate the volume flow and heat transport through these sections. An additional survey convered the area adjacent to Cape Bonavista, Newfoundland, and a section between South Wolf Island, Labrafor, and Cape Farewell, Greenland. Analyses for dissolved oxygen and nutrients were made on sea water samples from the latter section. Preliminary studies of iceberg deterioration and specific drift factors were conducted. (Author)

Book Non volcanic Rifting of Continental Margins

Download or read book Non volcanic Rifting of Continental Margins written by Geological Society of London and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2001 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-continental margins lack thick lavas that are generated as continental crust thins immediately prior to the onset of seafloor spreading. They may form up to 30 per cent of passive margins around the world. This volume contains papers examining an active margin, fossil margins that border present day oceans, and remnants of margins exposed today in the Alps. The papers present evidence across a range of scales, from individual mineral grains, through borelide cores and outcrop, to whole margins at the crustal scale.

Book Arctic Subarctic Ocean Fluxes

  • Author : Robert R. Dickson
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-03-03
  • ISBN : 1402067747
  • Pages : 728 pages

Download or read book Arctic Subarctic Ocean Fluxes written by Robert R. Dickson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-03-03 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are only now beginning to understand the climatic impact of the remarkable events that are now occurring in subarctic waters. Researchers, however, have yet to agree upon a predictive model that links change in our northern seas to climate. This volume brings together the body of evidence needed to develop climate models that quantify the ocean exchanges through subarctic seas, measure their variability, and gauge their impact on climate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air-Sea Interaction: Laws and Mechanisms provides a comprehensive account of how the atmosphere and the ocean interact to control the global climate, what physical laws govern this interaction, and what are its prominent mechanisms. It is mainly directed towards graduate students and research scientists in meteorology, oceanography, and environmental engineering. The book will be of value on entry level courses in meteorology and oceanography, and also to the broader physics community interested in the treatment of transfer laws, and thermodynamics of the atmosphere and ocean.

Book excerpt: This second edition retains the general structure of the first edition, buthas been updated in the light of recent oceanographic research, and improvedas a teaching text on the basis of feedback from past students and otherreaders.Notable additions include new sections addressing the topic ofnumerical modelling, and more discussion of natural oscillations in theocean-atmosphere system (previously confined to the El Niño phenomenon). Inparticular, the Chapter on the North Atlantic now includes a discussion ofthe North Atlantic Oscillation, as well as of the Great Salinity Anomaly. Inthe final Chapter, treatment of water mass formation has been updated toreflect recent ideas about the processes involved and how they relate toclimatic change over different time-scales, from decades to millennia. Download or read book Oceanography of the Labrador Sea in the Vicinity of Hudson Strait in 1965 Classic Reprint written by Ronald C. Kollmeyer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Oceanography of the Labrador Sea in the Vicinity of Hudson Strait in 1965 Another expedition is planned during July and August of 1966 to the Hudson Strait area. Survey work will be performed both inside and outside the entrance of the strait in an effort to tie the circulation of both areas together. In addition, parachute drogues will be used, during several tidal cycles, in order to obtain direct measure ments of the net flow through the strait. Multiple section occupations over several tidal cycles will also be attempted in order to verify the constancy of the distribution of mass regardless of the tidal current fluctuation.
