Book A Laboratory Guide in Bacteriology

Download or read book A Laboratory Guide in Bacteriology written by Paul G. Heinemann and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Laboratory Guide in Bacteriology: For the Use of Students, Teachers, and Practitioners The considerations which led the writer to add this laboratory guide of bacteriology to the number of such guides already in existence were of various nature and may be briefly set forth here. Probably no branch of biological science has advanced so rapidly during the past few years as the science of bacteriology, and it is difficult even for an active labora tory worker to keep abreast of this advance. A text book or guide fixes the status of the science at the time of its writing, but almost before it leaves the press it becomes antiquated. Revisions, corrections, and addi tions are necessary at short intervals in order to keep a publication of this kind approximately up to date. There is therefore, almost at any given moment room for a new publication to fill the want of a progressive instructor for a guide that gives the latest accepted rules and practices of the laboratory. The value of such a publication will be enhanced by a plan and arrangement of sufficient flexibility and latitude to allow the instructor and the student to enter such additions and corrections as serve to bridge over the time between editions. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Bacteriology A Manual of Bacteriology, therefore, which fairly represents the present state of knowledge, will consist largely of a statement of facts established by experimental data, and cannot fail to be of value to physicians and to advanced students of bacteriology as a work of reference. The present volume is an attempt to supply such a man ual, and at the same time a text-book of bacteriology for students and guide for laboratory work. That portion Of the book which is printed in large type will, it is hoped, be found to give an accurate and sufficiently extended account of the most important pathogenic bacteria, and of bacteriological technology, to serve as a text-book for medical students and others interested in this department Of science. The descriptions of non-pathogenic bacteria, and of the less important or imperfectly described species of pathogenic bacteria, are given in smaller type. For the benefit of students of medicine and others who do not care especially for the detailed descriptions Of non-pathogenic bacteria and the extensive bibliography contained in the Manual, this text-book OF bacteriology is now published. It comprises that portion of the Manual above referred to as printed in large type, revised to in clude all important additions to our knowledge of the pathogenic bacteria since the original date Of publication. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Determinative Bacteriology For this reason the present book has been termed a Manual of Determinative, rather than one of Systematic, Bacteriology. To the student working in the laboratory the determination of unknown bacteria has been almost impossible, except with the expenditure of an amount of labor which was impracticable. With the use of the present manual it is believed that the teacher can place a given c\ulture in the hands of his pupil and expect him to determine it, as is done with other organic forms. It is therefore hoped that the present work will serve a useful purpose as a laboratory manual. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
