Book Laboratory Testing and the Hurability of Concrete

Download or read book Laboratory Testing and the Hurability of Concrete written by TB. Kennedy and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete structures cannot be constructed and subjected to full-scale tests for durability in a manner analogous to load tests. It therefore is necessary to estimate the durability of concrete structures by combining information gained from a study of service yielded by existing structures, controlled exposure tests of specimens, laboratory simulated-service tests, and tests and analyses of concrete and concrete materials. None of these sources of information provide a basis for adequately evaluating the effect on durability of workmanship, honesty, and intelligence that may or may not be employed in all stages of the operation from production of concrete materials to maintenance of the completed structure.

Book Performance Criteria for Concrete Durability

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a state-of-the-art report prepared by RILEM Technical Committee 116-PCD and is an authoritative, international review of the subject and is an essential reference source for engineers and technologists. Performance Criteria for Concrete Durability explains key aspects of concrete durability, and the relationships between transport mechanisms and concrete durability characteristics. It reviews test methods for measuring permeability in the laboratory and on site, and discusses the many factors which influence the durability of concrete to carbonation, chlorides, abrasion etc.

Book Engineered Concrete Mix Design and Test Methods

Download or read book Engineered Concrete Mix Design and Test Methods written by Irving Kett and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-11-29 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Romans used an early type of concrete made with natural pozzuolanic cement more than 2,000 years ago. Today, Portland Cement Concrete is the most important material of construction. Yet few books, if any, exist that offer an in-depth analysis of the mixing and testing methods of this vital hydraulic cement. Until now that is. Engineered Concrete: Mix Design and Test Methods helps engineers, as well as laboratory technicians, grasp a better understanding of Portland Cement and Portland Cement Concrete. The book is divided into several sections, with the first, Mix Design Procedures, explaining how concrete batches are designed, mixed, and measured for various consistencies. Another section details the tests of the primary component materials of concrete other than water - namely Portland Cement, aggregates, and mortar - while the final section includes some of the fundamental concrete testing procedures for different strength parameters in conformity with the standards of the American Society for Testing Materials. While focusing solely on Portland Cement, the book also includes information on other hydraulic cementitious materials and additives because of their modern applications. Solidly researched and written, Engineered Concrete: Mix Design and Test Methods provides a clear understanding of mix design and testing of Portland Cement Concrete. As every civil engineer knows, it is the most versatile and important material of construction, and will probably remain so as far into the future as we can see.

Book Durability Predictions from Rate of Diffusion Testing of Normal Portland Cement Fly Ash and Slag Concrete

Download or read book Durability Predictions from Rate of Diffusion Testing of Normal Portland Cement Fly Ash and Slag Concrete written by Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A waste repository for the belowground disposal of low-level radioactive waste, called Intrusion Resistant Underground Structure (IRUS), is planned at Chalk River Laboratories. Since the rate of degradation depends to a major extent on the rate of ingress of aggressive ions into concrete, laboratory testing is in progress to establish the diffusion rates of chlorides and sulphate ions. A total of 1000 concrete specimens and 500 paste specimens are being exposed at 22C and 45C to 25 different combinations of corrosive agents, including carbon dioxide. Procedures to measure the ionic penetration profile and to determine the factors controlling diffusion of ions in the various concretes were developed. This paper presents the initial results from the program and the longevity predictions to qualify concretes for the waste repository, based on 16 months of diffusion testing on laboratory specimens.

Book Laboratory Investigation of 4 1 2 in Aggregate Concrete Mixtures with High Water cement Ratios

Download or read book Laboratory Investigation of 4 1 2 in Aggregate Concrete Mixtures with High Water cement Ratios written by William O. Tynes and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the investigation was to either validate or disprove the assumption that a water-cement ratio (W/C) in excess of 0.8 by weight for interior concrete containing 4-1/2-in. maximum size aggregate can be used in mass concrete construction, and to compare the properties of concrete containing 4-1/2-in. maximum size aggregate with those of the concretes containing 3- and 6-in. maximum size aggregates. The investigation consisted of a laboratory test program in which a series of six lean mass concrete mixtures, both with and without pozzolan, containing 4-1/2-in. maximum size aggregate were proportioned with identical W/C's that had been selected from the work of a previous investigation. Specimens were cast and tests were made to evaluate the mixtures for workability, strength, permeability, and durability.

Book Performance Criteria for Concrete Repair Materials

Download or read book Performance Criteria for Concrete Repair Materials written by Randall W. Poston and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study reported herein is part of an overall investigation to develop performance criteria for cement-based repair materials. In Phase I of the study, preliminary criteria for dimensionally compatible repair materials were developed based on a review of the literature. This review concentrated on identifying pertinent material properties, appropriate test methods, and demonstrated field performance. Laboratory and field tests to evaluate the preliminary performance criteria were conducted in Phase II of the project Twelve candidate repair materials were selected for the experimental portion of the project Bach material was subjected to a series of standard and nonstandard laboratory tests to determine properties which were perceived to be of interest in a repair context and to provide some basic information about their behavior. These tests included: (a) unrestrained and restrained drying shrinkage, (b) modulus of elasticity, (c) tensile and compressive creep, (d) coefficient of thermal expansion, and (e) flexural, compressive, and direct tensile strengths. Concurrent field tests were also conducted to evaluate material durability. Results of the laboratory investigation are described herein. Results of laboratory and field performance tests will be correlated (Phase III) to provide a basis for development of performance criteria for cement-based materials that will provide durable concrete repairs.
