Book Research Experiences in Plant Physiology

Download or read book Research Experiences in Plant Physiology written by T. C. Moore and published by Springer. This book was released on 1981-06-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three major changes have been made in Research Experiences in Plant Physiology in producing this second edition. The format has been changed so as to minimize the number of pages and hence the cost to students, hopefully without sacrifice of readability or general utility of the manual. Three new exercises have been added on Phytochrome Effects in Nyctinastic Leaf Movements (Exercise 26), Measurement of Leaf Water Potentials with a Pressure Chamber (Exercise 27), and The Hill Reaction of Photosynthesis (Exercise 28) in an effort to provide more balanced coverage of the major topics in Plant Physiology. Lastly, modest revisions have been made in the text and lists of references throughout the manual and in the index. It is hoped that these collective changes will lead to continued wide acceptance of Research Experiences in Plant Physiology as the laboratory manual for upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in Plant Physiology. The preparation of this new edition naturally has involved the invaluable assistance of several persons. lowe special thanks to Mrs. Ellen Witt for her patience and proficiency in retyping the entire manual. To Mrs. Witt, Mrs. Leona Nicholson, and my wife, Arvida, I am grateful for assistance in proofreading. I thank Brian D. Cleary for assisting with the writing of Exercise 27 on leaf water potentials, and Donald J. Armstrong for his valuable criticism and suggestions regarding many of the exercises. Finally, I thank Mr. Stephen J. Danko for assisting with the testing of the new exercises. Thomas C.

Book Practical Plant Physiology

Download or read book Practical Plant Physiology written by Frederick Keeble and published by White Press. This book was released on 1911 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1910, "Practical Plant Physiology" is an accessible guide to elementary botany. Originally designed for students and teachers, it offers an introductory outline of the experiments and experimental methods used in botany and plant investigation, as well as other useful information related to the subject. This volume will be of considerable utility to those with an interest in plants and botany, and it would make for a fantastic addition to collections of allied literature. Contents include: "The Problem of Plant-Physiology and the Method by which They are to be Solved", "Germination", "The Mode of Germination of Seeds", "The Parts of the Seed and Seedling", "The Resting and Active States of Seeds", "The Food-Materials of Seeds", "Changes During Germination", etc. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now complete with a specially-commissioned new introduction on botany.

Book Experimental Plant Physiology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Experimental Plant Physiology Classic Reprint written by D. T. Macdougal and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-12 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experimental Plant Physiology Only the more important and better established portions of the subject are treated, and these in the manner already in gen eral use. With the rapid advance of investigation it is next to impossible that an elementary laboratory manual should include the latest results, especially when the essential points of many of them may yet be in controversy and need the critical treat ment which is certainly not within the province of a work of this character. In the hands of an instructor in touch with current botanical thought, such deficiencies are easily supplied. In the interests of precision, the term assimilation is here used exclusively to denote a general function of proto plasm, while the term photosynthesis, which was introduced into the translation of Oels' manual (preface and page is adopted to signify the special process of forming carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight. The author is indebted to Mr. R. N. Day and Miss J. E. Tilden for the demonstration and drawing for Figure 32. Book A Laboratory Course in Plant Physiology

Download or read book A Laboratory Course in Plant Physiology written by William F. Ganong and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Laboratory Course in Plant Physiology: Second Edition Extended to Form a Handbook of Experimentation, for Educational Use This book has a threefold purpose. First, it aims to lead students through a good laboratory course in Plant Physiology. Second, it seeks to provide a handbook of information upon all phases of Plant Physiology having any educational interest. Third, I venture to hope that it may find service as a guide to self-education by ambitious teachers or students, who, unable to obtain regular instruction, yet wish to advance themselves in this attractive and important subject. To meet these ends I have tried to bring together the best of that which is already known in its field, and to add thereto some materials derived from new studies. The book is not a compendium of physiological knowl edge, nor yet, except incidentally, a handbook of investigation; but it is a guide to the acquisition of a physiological education. It is designed as a contribution to educational economy, and as such I wish it to be judged. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
