Book Labor Forces and Landscape Management

Download or read book Labor Forces and Landscape Management written by Hiroyuki Shimizu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-17 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to present a new proposal for landscape management labor accounts. Many matured countries are now confronting an aging society and a shrinking population. Land degradation in those countries is basically caused by a lack of local labor forces. It is very important, therefore, to consider and develop methods to provide appropriate labor forces for the sustainable management of landscapes or to reduce or shrink landscape management areas sustainably with available labor forces. Landscape management labor accounts provide a foundation for such development. This book consists of four main parts. The first part is concerned with forming concepts, definitions, and overviews. Change in land management policies, research topics, and issues on landscape management are dealt with in the second part. The third part consists of case studies on landscape management labor accounts. Major landscape types chosen for case studies include urban areas, flatland farmlands, Satoyama, and coastal neighborhoods. In the last part of this section, integration methods to develop landscape management labor accounts on different scales are considered. The fourth part of the book is a detailed exposition of contemporary trials to solve issues of land management for the future in the field of urban, rural, forest, river, and coastal planning. Also discussed is the connection of ecosystem service studies and perspectives on the development of landscape management labor accounts with world landscape management research.

The resulting theory has broad implications for strategic negotiations in many settings.

Book Land Reform and Sustainable Development

Download or read book Land Reform and Sustainable Development written by Robert W. Dixon-Gough and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this volume is unique in that it gives a valuable comparison between the current state of land reform and sustainable development across greater Europe. The chapters are broadly divided into those related to the established systems of land reform and sustainable development encountered in Western Europe, and those which concentrate upon the evolving systems which are currently in the process of development in the former communist states of Eastern and Central Europe. The book is based on the papers presented at the 21st International Symposium of the European Faculty of Land Use and Development. The papers have been presented and peer-reviewed by some of the leading experts and practitioners of Land Reform in Europe. All papers have been extensively edited and revised, and are presented as chapters within the three sections of the book: Land Reform, Sustainable Development and Rural Land Development.

Book Patterns and Processes in Forest Landscapes

Download or read book Patterns and Processes in Forest Landscapes written by Raffaele Lafortezza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-30 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing evidence suggests that the composition and spatial configuration – the pattern – of forest landscapes affect many ecological processes, including the movement and persistence of particular species, the susceptibility and spread of disturbances such as fires or pest outbreaks, and the redistribution of matter and nutrients. Understanding these issues is key to the successful management of complex, multifunctional forest landscapes, and landscape ecology, based on a foundation of island bio-geography and meta-population dynamic theories, provides the rationale to deal with this pattern-to-process interaction at different spatial and temporal scales. This carefully edited volume represents a stimulating addition to the international literature on landscape ecology and resource management. It provides key insights into some of the applicable landscape ecological theories that underlie forest management, with a specific focus on how forest management can benefit from landscape ecology, and how landscape ecology can be advanced by tackling challenging problems in forest (landscape) management. It also presents a series of case studies from Europe, Asia, North America, Africa and Australia exploring the issues of disturbance, diversity, management, and scale, and with a specific focus on how human intervention affects forest landscapes and, in turn, how landscapes influence humans and their culture. An important reference for advanced students and researchers in landscape ecology, conservation biology, forest ecology, natural resource management and ecology across multiple scales, the book will also appeal to researchers and practitioners in reserve design, ecological restoration, forest management, landscape planning and landscape architecture.
