This book was released on 1993 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the six main categories of life-course events and experiences that have the greatest impact on women's senior years. It first looks at the effect of these experiences on women who were born during the first quarter of this century. Based on information about how these experiences are changing, the report then speculates on how the situation of future cohorts of senior women may differ. These experiences include family life, health, living arrangements, education, employment and economic security. The report also includes a subjective dimension illustrating how women see the impact of experiences on their lives, thanks to the informal consultations carried out by Council members. Recommendations addressed to individual women, society in general, governments, community agencies, educational institutions, employers and researchers conclude the paper.

Book Genre et fondamentalismes Gender and Fundamentalisms

Download or read book Genre et fondamentalismes Gender and Fundamentalisms written by Fatou Sow and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When, why and how can religion and culture be both sources, and places of expression for fundamentalisms, particularly in relation to politics? Those are the central questions asked throughout this book alongside a discussion on the result when religion, strenthened by culture, is used as a political tool to access moral and social power. Cultural and religious messages often form the basis of decisions, laws and programs made in politics, and have a direct effect on society in general, and on women and gender relations in particular. The various forms taken by fundamentalisms in some African countries and the contexts under which they have emerged, the ways in which they (re)shape identities and relationships between men and women are also analysed in this book. These fundamentalisms are frequently sources of concern in social debates, in feminist and feminine organizations as well as in academia and politics. The manipulation of cultures and religions are becoming progressively political, and consequently can cause social discrimination, or even physical, moral, and symbolic violence.

Book Sponsorship for Better Or for Worse

Download or read book Sponsorship for Better Or for Worse written by Andrée Côté and published by Status of Women. This book was released on 2001 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sponsorship is a procedure that allows people to immigrate to Canada in order to join their families without having to satisfy the usual selection criteria. This report examines the impact of sponsorship on immigrant women using documentary research and qualitative research based on life stories. Part 1 describes that methodology and presents a brief history of immigration & sponsorship policies in Canada. Part 2 presents & discusses life stories revealed in in-depth interviews with 16 Francophone immigrant women in Ontario who were sponsored by their husbands. The stories reveal the magnitude & complexity of the problems they face as immigrant women and how conjugal sponsorship contributes to their disadvantaged status. Part 3 reviews the rights of immigrant women under the current sponsorship regime and the impact of spousal sponsorship on those rights. The final part begins by discussing reforms made in other jurisdictions in order to find promising avenues for reform, then examines recent federal proposals in its January 1999 policy statement on new directions for immigration policy & legislation. Two policy reform options are then considered: improving the current sponsorship regime according to the needs of women sponsored by their husbands; and eliminating mandatory sponsorship in cases of family reunification between spouses. The appendix includes an interview guide.
