Beatriz Ontaneda Portal y Rose Marie Paz Wells nos muestran que, en algunos aspectos, el canon cristiano ha usado datos de los apócrifos. Dividen el libro en dos partes: en la primera contextualizan los apócrifos para ver la influencia de otras religiones y sectas de la época, sobre el cristianismo, en la segunda nos detallan cómo sería la vida de Jesús y de sus seres más cercano, si tuviéramos en cuenta lo que los apócrifos dicen de ellos, además, en un último capítulo, las autoras nos enumeran una breve muestra de las contradicciones e incongruencias que existen en los propios textos canónicos.
