This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the novel, V oyages el avantures de] aques Masse, caused some thing of a stir during the first half of the eighteenth century, its author, Simon Tyssot de Patot (1655-1738), remained largely unknown in his lifetime, and it is only in this century that he has been recognized as one of the countless soldiers in the vast army of philosophes that assaulted the bastions of religious, political and sodallife in Europe of the late seven 1 teenth and early eighteenth centuries. Tyssot was a Huguenot who lived most of his life in Holland where he pursued a career as professor of mathematics in the sodal and cultural 1 Tyssot and his work seem to have been first brought to the attention of modem writers by the German critics during their investigation of the type of desert island or robinsonade literature that preceded and followed Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. The earliest reference I have found occurs in A. Kippenberg, Robinson in Deutschland bis zur Insel Felsenburg (1713-43), Hanover, 1892, pp. 66-67. Tyssot's name and work appear to have been first linked with the development of socialism in A. Lichtenberger, Le Socialisme au XVIIIe siecle, Paris, 1895, p. 44. Tyssot's Voyages et avantures de]aques Masse was discussed for its literary merits in A. LeBreton, Le Roman au dix huitieme siecle, Paris, 1898. LeBreton did not know that Tyssot was the author.

Download or read book Four Proofs of Jesus Resurrection written by James B. Polson and published by Elm Hill. This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is like the signature of God certifying that everything Jesus did was the work of God, and everything Jesus taught and promised is absolutely true. The disciples were not expecting Jesus to come back from the dead even though He had told them beforehand that He would. They had to be convinced of the resurrection. What was some of the evidence they encountered that convinced them that Jesus was alive and drove them to face persecution and death as they proclaimed that message? This book portrays some of that evidence so that the reader can judge for himself or herself whether the claims of the disciples were based on wishful thinking or on solid evidence and sound reasoning.
Download or read book Raising Jesus written by E.J. Sweeney and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is hard . . . then you die. It’s as simple as that. Dead bodies stay dead. So in this modern, scientific age, how can any reasonable person possibly believe that Jesus actually rose from the dead? Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy turned out to be myths. How is Jesus’s Resurrection any different? How can there possibly be any credible evidence for an event that happened two thousand years ago? The resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in the history of the world—if it’s true. If Jesus did rise, then he is God, the ultimate reality itself. In him, you can find the meaning of life, the secret of happiness, and the way to eternal life. Raising Jesus provides the evidence to show that it really is true. In this era of “alternative facts,” Raising Jesus relies on the most balanced and up-to-date scholarship to shed trustworthy new insights into the evidence. It does this in an easy-to-follow, systematic way using engaging illustrations to reveal the logic of complex arguments. Most importantly, it deals head on with the biggest problem most people in our modern, scientific age have with the resurrection: the philosophical objection that dead people simply don’t come back from the dead. Raising Jesus ultimately shows how believing Jesus rose from the dead is, in fact, the most reasonable conclusion you can make.

Download or read book Resurrection Faith or Fact written by Carl Stecher and published by Pitchstone Publishing (US&CA). This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there enough evidence to believe Jesus rose from the dead, or must such a judgment be based only on faith? Can the resurrection story be considered a fact of history, or should it be viewed as an ahistorical account? Two renowned professors, atheist Carl Stecher and Christian Craig Blomberg, engage in a groundbreaking new debate on these very questions. Other experts on the resurrection, atheist Richard Carrier and Christian Peter S. Williams, comment on the outcome. Presenting new approaches to these centuries-old questions and taking into account the latest scholarly research, Resurrection: Faith or Fact? is a must-have not only for all those following the resurrection question—but also for those skeptics and Christians alike who are interested in determining for themselves the truth behind this foundational doctrine of the Christian faith.
Download or read book Resurrection of Jesus Christ written by B. Lee Ligon-Borden, Ph.D. and published by Footstool Publications. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Ligon-Borden displays superior knowledge of the canonical Gospels, and harmonizes the four resurrection scenes with insight and care. In this day when other scholars delight to find as many alleged contradictions as they can in Holy Scripture, it is encouraging to find one who manages the “problems” well, and demonstrates not only the unity of the Gospel writers, but also the basic message of each one, and how that lends itself to the telling of the story of the resurrection. Like a “Who Done It” movie where each scene reveals more, you will at first with apprehension be confronted with the differences of the eyewitnesses, but also thrill that they do not contradict one another. Once the details are put together, the Gospel writers give various pictures of the Incarnate Son of God. Truly we have Four Views, One Truth. I commend this easy to read mosaic to all who love our Lord. You will be greatly encouraged.
