Book The Economics of Small Businesses

Download or read book The Economics of Small Businesses written by Giorgio Calcagnini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-07 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is small still beautiful? The recent economic and financial crisis has shown that developed countries in which firms are smaller suffered the biggest GDP plunges. Today, economic growth depends more than in the past on sound and well-organized firms, which means more innovation, a better educated labor force, higher likelihood of access to financial resources and efficient investments. This does not mean the end of small-sized firms, but that they need to be different from the way they were in the past. This book provides an international perspective on analyses and policy recommendations for how small businesses can reinforce their role in modern economies.

Book The Value of Intangible Assets and the Human Capital Disclosure of companies specializing in IT

Download or read book The Value of Intangible Assets and the Human Capital Disclosure of companies specializing in IT written by Olga Maria Stefania Cucaro and published by Olga Maria stefania Cucaro. This book was released on 2017-08-23 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Value of Intangibles Assets and the Human Capital Disclosure of companies specializing in IT Consulting, Application & Internet Software and Data Processing. A Cross-Country Comparison Italy-England is a work born of the in depth study of the IC disclosure of Italian companies and the curiosity of the comparison with British companies. Voluntary disclosure of intangible resources reduces information asymmetry and the cost of capital (Botosan, 1997; Bojelbene M. A. and Affes Habib, 2013) and this encourages managers to increase this communication. The high-tech companies give much importance to intangible resources, particularly human resources, this observation led to the idea of studying the communication of human capital in the context of such companies. With the passing of time we see a greater interest on the part of company management to human capital with respect to the structural capital that has always been the subject of corporate communications.

Book Banks and Business Networks

Download or read book Banks and Business Networks written by Josanco Floreani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there is a vast amount of literature examining firm’s networks from an industrial organization perspective, the financial implications of networking remain underexplored. This book fills this gap, by investigating the phenomenon of business networks in the context of management and governance processes, and the related effects on interactions with the financial system in general, and credit institutions in particular. Networking is examined both from the demand (firms) and supply (banking institutions) perspective, thus, the book offers several contributions. It outlines the critical issues connected to business aggregations from the point of view of the management of information flows, and addresses the problem of identifying the role of banking ecosystems, in light of the transformations taking place in the financial industry, considering the growing complementarity between bank and market instruments in corporate financing. It explores the problem of identifying rating models for business networks, as well as, for individual participants on a stand-alone basis. Further, the book analyses a sample of networks in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and profiles a number of specific business cases. The book will be of particular interest to researchers and scholars in the field of banking and finance but also entrepreneurship and small business management. It will also find an audience among scholars from a wide array of additional fields, working on the relationship between financing concerns and growth opportunities.

Book Which variables of governance can affect the risk of default of family businesses A cross country comparison between United Kingdom and Italy

Download or read book Which variables of governance can affect the risk of default of family businesses A cross country comparison between United Kingdom and Italy written by Olga Maria Stefania Cucaro and published by Olga Maria stefania Cucaro. This book was released on 2017-08-17 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the association between some governance variables and the risk of default of family and non-family firms. The paper also discusses the nature of family control and the differences to non-family control and their link to firm’s performance. The most relevant indicators utilised by the authors for identifies the probability of default are based on quantitative indicators, but the presence of independent directors or the managements turnover (in particular the change of CEO) are more important for the future life of the firms, especially in the crisis periods. These governance variables are more relevant for the firms that are controlled by founder’s family and in case of succession transition, that is one critical period for the firm. In this study we try to confirm the agency problems in family businesses highlighted by the literature as the relationship between Z-score and the presence of independent directors, the turnover of the directors and the change of CEO. Especially if the latter is also Chairman. We reaffirm in this analysis the necessary distinction between the capital and the company management.
