Book Sustainable Measures

Download or read book Sustainable Measures written by Martin Bennett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental and social performance measurement and reporting by business has become a high-profile issue during the 1990s. It is increasingly being requested by stakeholders and required by governments. Companies too are finding that they need better environmental and social performance data for effective internal management. And there are a growing number of standardisation initiatives – such as the ISO 14031 guidelines on environmental performance evaluation or the CERES Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) template for sustainability reporting – that are aimed at making it easier for more companies to take action, and for stakeholders to compare their progress.Sustainable Measures collects together most of the key work and individuals concerned with the topic from around the world. Contributions include: environmental and social reporting by John Elkington and colleagues at SustainAbility; the GRI discussion draft; Roger Adams and Martin Houldin on the FEE study of environmental reporting; Janet Ranganathan of the World Resources Institute on sustainability measures; and Martin Bennett and Peter James on ISO 14031 and the future of environmental performance evaluation. There are also chapters examining current practice in Austria, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands and South Africa, developments in electronic reporting, as well as case studies of Baxter, Kunert, Niagara Mohawk, Unox, The Body Shop and the UK water industry, and an analysis of leading social reports. The book is essential reading for all academics, campaigners, policy-makers and practitioners with an interest in issues such as:The standardization and comparability of environmental and social performance measuresMeasuring and reporting on sustainable businessEco-points and other means of evaluating product impactsThe implementation of measurement and reportingBest practice in corporate environmental and social reportingNew means of communicating environmental dataEnvironmental performance evaluation in developing countries

Book Measuring Up

Download or read book Measuring Up written by Daryl W. Ditz and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "Measuring Up", the authors argue that the time for an overhaul of how we keep score of business environmental performance has come. Although most firms keep tabs on environmental compliance under existing laws, such measurements fail to distinguish superior performers, rarely lower regulatory burden, and may not even enter into future business decisions. "Measuring Up" calls for the adoption of four categories of environmental performance - materials use, energy consumption, nonproduct output, and pollutant releases - that emphasize resource efficiency, pollution prevention, and product stewardship.

Download or read book ISO 14031 written by Wathey and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISO 14031 is the international standard for environmental performance evaluation (EPE). This book aims to provide a practical interpretation of the ISO 14031 standard, along with further guidance and methodologies, for anyone responsible for the management of environmental issues within an organisation. It is designed to lead the reader through the stages of implementation of a fully functional ISO 14031-based EPE system. Background information is provided in chapter 2 along with guidance on the first steps to implementing EPE. Chapters 3 to 5 cover the 'plan, do, check, act' cycle which forms the basis of the EPE framework proposed under ISO 14031. The last chapter looks at specific applications of the standard. The book draws on a major UK Government sponsored ISO 14031 demonstration project and uses case studies to support the text. The ongoing operation of the system is touched on but the operational system will be shaped by the nature of the system and the organisation within which it operates. A range of templates is included in the appendices. (The authors are at 14000 and ONE Solutions, a UK based environmental management consultancy which specialises in the application of environmental management systems and performance evaluation techniques.)

Book Developing Corporate Social Responsibility

Download or read book Developing Corporate Social Responsibility written by Francesco Perrini and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Perrini et al provide a detailed, authoritative look at the evolving European perspective on corporate social responsibility. They show how Europe has moved from follower status to leading edge practice. The book is the best current indicator of what the next stages of CSR will look like.' - Thomas W. Dunfee, University of Pennsylvania, US The rapidly increasing attention devoted to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has resulted in the term 'CSR' being applied to myriad dissimilar phenomena. The authors therefore aim to dispel this confusion by presenting a multi-faceted view of socially responsible corporate behavior and related themes. They provide a conceptualization of CSR that emphasizes the role of the adoption and implementation of specific CSR strategies and their impact on corporate social and economic performance.

Book Starting Up in Business Networks

Download or read book Starting Up in Business Networks written by Lise Aaboen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-17 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a novel perspective on starting-up new business ventures through examining the process by which they become part of the existing business environment. The book highlights the importance of inter-organizational business relationships. Asserting that new ventures need to interact and connect with customers and suppliers, alongside policy actors and universities, Starting up in Business Networks demonstrates how beginning a new venture demands initiating and developing business relationships. Noting a lack of prior research into the process by which start-ups embed into an existing business network, this book presents examples from countries such as Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands and China to analyse the emergence and evolution of start-up business networks.

Book The Collaborative Enterprise

Download or read book The Collaborative Enterprise written by Antonio Tencati and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Competitive economics produces an enormous abundance of goods and services but at an intolerable environmental and social cost. Competition has become an end in itself, which leads to detrimental effects on nature, society and future generations. A change of paradigm is needed. Business should respect the ecological and social limits in which it operates and embed its activities in the natural and social systems. This book promotes a collaborative attitude of doing business based on a positive view of the self and others. Theoretical contributions, reflections, cases, examples, and initiatives collected in the book show that a collaborative enterprise is not only possible but also a feasible and desirable alternative to the current, self-defeating, managerial models. Innovative firms seeking to build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with all of their stakeholders while producing values for their business ecosystems represent well-grounded hopes for a really sustainable future.

Book Wine and Tourism

Download or read book Wine and Tourism written by Marta Peris-Ortiz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to show how wine tourism can be used as a model for sustainable economic development, driving economic growth and social development in some locations. It will explore the interaction between tourism and viticulture in wine tourism destinations, while also explaining some of the repercussions of these activities. This book covers various topics including regional development, environmental management, sustainable viticulture, quality management in wineries and wine tourism routes among others. Wine tourism, which combines two important yet distinct economic activities (i.e., tourism and viticulture), has recently emerged as a new tourism product driven by tourists’ search for new experiences and wineries’ need to diversify their businesses and seek new revenue streams to boost sales. This new form of tourism, which typically takes place in rural areas and which combines wine production with tourist activities, is becoming important for such regions by providing a complementary income source. It provides a model for sustainable economic development for these regions, which for various reasons may otherwise struggle to develop. Featuring cases and business implications from various locations, this book provides an important source of knowledge—both theoretical and practical—suitable to academics, scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the tourism sector and the wine industry.
