For this reason, the Glossary contains not only financial and economic terminology and terms relating to the Bank's procedures and practices, but also terms that frequently occur in Bank documents, and others for which the Bank has a preferred equivalent. Although many of these terms, relating to such fields as agriculture, education, energy, housing, law, technology, and transportation, could be found in other sources, they have been assembled here for ease of reference. A list of acronyms occurring frequently in Bank texts (the terms to which they refer being found in the Glossary) and a list of international, regional, and national organizations will be found at the end of the Glossary.

Book excerpt: Aun cuando la importancia del sector primario en la estructura económica española está fuera de cualquier duda, integrando un sector fundamental y estratégico, lo cierto es que plantea algunos problemas estructurales que no pueden pasar desapercibidos. Así, se diferencia de otros ámbitos funcionales por su gran estacionalidad y dependencia de factores externos, difícilmente controlables, como el clima, el cual es capaz de modificar la cantidad y la calidad de la producción y, por lo tanto, la demanda de trabajadores necesarios (en un amplio porcentaje, extranjeros), la intensificación de la dedicación a una actividad laboral peligrosa o, en su envés, la paralización de las tareas. Además, la muy peculiar situación que ha vivido el sector agropecuario en los dos últimos siglos, pasando de ser un marco que ocupaba a la mayoría de la población activa, a un reducto menos extenso de empleo predominantemente masculino, en el que a la imparable tecnificación y especialización se ha unido, en las últimas décadas, el desarrollo de mercados agrícolas globales que, con ser eficientes y favorecer el abastecimiento de los más diversos productos, ha provocado notables distorsiones en cuanto a los precios e incentivos de producción. Todo ello sin olvidar que el campo, en un sentido productivo de la expresión, presenta una perenne ligazón con los entornos rurales afectados por la despoblación, pues estos últimos constituyen el marco natural para el desarrollo de las actividades agrarias. Todas estas peculiaridades de la prestación de servicios en el sector agrario indudablemente tienen repercusión en la negociación colectiva.

The outcome is a collective agreement that defines terms of employment - typically wages, working hours and in-work benefits. The agreement affords labour protection: minimum wages, regular earnings; limits on working hours and predictable work schedules; safe working environments; parental leave and sick leave; and a fair share in the benefits of increased productivity. The International Labour Organization (ILO) Collective Agreements Recommendation 1951 (No. 91) considers, where appropriate and having regard to national practice, that measures should be taken to extend the application of all or some provisions of a collective agreement to all employers and workers included wthin the domain of the agreement. The extension of a collective agreement generalises the terms and conditions of employment, agreed between organised firms and workers, represented through their association(s) and union(s), to the non-organised firms within a sector, occupation or territory. The collection of chapters in this volume are about the extension of collective agreements as an act of public policy.
