Les deux premières études manipulent les consignes (de mémorisation et rappel) et les caractéristiques perceptives des indices de rappel. Elles apportent des arguments en faveur (1) d'une multiplicité de processus en oeuvre dans la mémoire déclarative précoce, (2) du rôle des conditions d'encodage et de rappel sur les processus mnésiques chez le très jeune enfant, (3) d'une continuité des processus mnésiques au cours du développement. Dans le cadre plus spécifique des théories de Howe & Courage (1997) et de Tulving (1983, 2002), la 3e étude concerne l'effet des conditions de récupération en fonction du niveau de conscience de soi, évaluée par le test du miroir. Les résultats révèlent une dissociation expérimentale interprétée en termes de mémoire sémantique versus épisodique.
