Book La langue portugaise d Angola

Download or read book La langue portugaise d Angola written by Jean-Pierre Chavagne and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Portuguese Language Continuum in Africa and Brazil

Download or read book The Portuguese Language Continuum in Africa and Brazil written by Laura Álvarez López and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2018-11-22 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Portuguese Language Continuum in Africa and Brazil is the first publication in English to offer studies on a whole set of varieties of Portuguese in Africa as well as Brazilian Portuguese. Authored by specialists on varieties of Portuguese in Africa and Brazil, the eleven chapters and the epilogue promote a dialogue between researchers interested in their genesis, sociohistories and linguistic properties. Most chapters directly address the idea of a continuum of Portuguese derived from parallel sociohistorical and linguistic factors in Africa and Brazil, due to the colonial expansion of the language to new multilingual settings. The volume contributes to the understanding of structural properties that are often shared by several varieties in this continuum, and describes the various situations and domains of language use as well as sociocultural contexts where they have emerged and where they are being used. As of 26 July 2021, the ebook edition is Open Access under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.

Book Manual of Romance Languages in Africa

Download or read book Manual of Romance Languages in Africa written by Ursula Reutner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 880 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With more than two thousand languages spread over its territory, multilingualism is a common reality in Africa. The main official languages of most African countries are Indo-European, in many instances Romance. As they were primarily brought to Africa in the era of colonization, the areas discussed in this volume are thirty-five states that were once ruled by Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, or Spain, and the African regions still belonging to three of them. Twenty-six states are presented in relation to French, four to Italian, six to Portuguese, and two to Spanish. They are considered in separate chapters according to their sociolinguistic situation, linguistic history, external language policy, linguistic characteristics, and internal language policy. The result is a comprehensive overview of the Romance languages in modern-day Africa. It follows a coherent structure, offers linguistic and sociolinguistic information, and illustrates language contact situations, power relations, as well as the cross-fertilization and mutual enrichment emerging from the interplay of languages and cultures in Africa.

This is the most comprehensive volume on Portuguese phonology written in English, and it delves into the most pressing issues and challenges regarding a wide variety of topics, such as segmental and suprasegmental phenomena; aspects concerning the interfaces between phonology and other linguistic domains; and issues on synchronic variation, diachronic change, acquisition, and the teaching of Portuguese speech prosody to non-native learners. This in-depth resource will be invaluable for researchers and advanced students of Portuguese language and linguistics, as well as those interested in phonology and linguistics more broadly.

Book Portugais et langues africaines

Download or read book Portugais et langues africaines written by Margarida Maria Taddoni Petter and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2011 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Studies on Variation in Portuguese

Download or read book Studies on Variation in Portuguese written by Pilar Barbosa and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies on Variation in Portuguese offers a collection of studies on a range of variable phenomena attested within and across varieties of Portuguese. The volume starts out with an overview of current issues in the study of intralinguistic variation and is divided in two parts. Part 1 is dedicated to research on variation within national varieties (Brazilian and European). Here, a multidimensional analysis that combines both the geographic and the social dimensions of variation emerges as a way to identify possible regional specificities and the directionality of some of the variants. Part 2 collects studies that compare the behavior of a particular linguistic variable across different varieties. The variable phenomena discussed concern several levels of grammar and are framed within different conceptions of variation, thus promoting confrontation of theoretical and methodological alternatives. Overall, the volume constitutes a significant contribution to the essential question of how to model variation at different levels.

Download or read book La diversit linguistique en Angola et son influence sur l enseignement written by Tshiangolo Duku De and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Ghanaian Pidgin English in Its West African Context

Download or read book Ghanaian Pidgin English in Its West African Context written by Magnus Huber and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first published full-scale study of the Ghanaian variety of West African Pidgin English (GhaPE) makes extensive use of hitherto neglected historical material and provides a synchronic account of GhaPE's structure and sociolinguistics. Special focus is on the differences between GhaPE and other West African Pidgins, in particular the development of, and interrelations between, the different varieties of restructured English in West Africa, from Sierra Leone to Cameroon. This monograph further includes an overview of the history of Afro-European contact languages in Lower Guinea with special emphasis on the Gold Coast; an outline of the settlement of Freetown, Sierra Leone, with a description of how and when the transplantation of Sierra Leonean Krio to other West African countries took place; an analysis of the linguistic evidence for the origin, development, and spread of restructured Englishes on the Lower Guinea Coast; an account of the different varieties of GhaPE and their sociolinguistic status in the contemporary linguistic ecology of Ghana; as well as a comprehensive structural description of the “uneducated” variety of GhaPE. The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM which contains illustrative material such as spoken GhaPE and photographs.
