En primer lugar - en España - desarrollando los movimientos apostólicos de la HOAC y la JOC que fomentaron la creación de los sindicatos que durante el final de franquismo y el principio de la Transición reivindicaron con fuerza los derechos sociales y laborales de los trabajadores; tales como la USO, la CC.OO o la UGT. Los movimientos de base crearon una cultura política que iniciaron la lucha social tanto desde el sindicalismo como desde los partidos de izquierda, debido a la ausencia de la democracia cristiana en España. Este hecho coincidió con el papel tan importante que asumió en la Transición Monseñor Tarancón que propició una nueva Iglesia desligada del poder y regenerada por las tesis del Concilio Vaticano II. En Granada - el ejemplo de ciudad que hemos establecido para analizar estos hechos- los sucesos trágicos de 1970 marcaron una Transición a la democracia que desde la Iglesia estuvo pilotada desde la HOAC y la JOC y liderada por el Padre Quitián que reivindicó los derechos sociales y una nueva Iglesia a corde con el concilio y con la democracia que se estaba empezando a implantar en España. El otro ejemplo es Polonia, la creación del Sindicato independiente del gobierno comunista polaco - Solidaridad- creó una cultura propia basada en la libertad y con unas bases profundamente católicas que con el apoyo del Papa Juan Pablo II y del gobierno de los Estados Unidos, vencieron al Régimen Comunista en Polonia y comenzó poco a poco a ser minado el régimen soviético. En el presente estudio no sólo vamos a analizar los comportamientos sociales y políticos de España y Polonia sino que también vamos a comprobar- de una manera sucinta - las diferencias en las transiciones de un país y de otro, para finalizar

The logic of liberal markets since the 19thCentury, and especially since World War II, has been inscribed into everyday practices that are usually unconsciously reproduced. The authors show that they are a main driver of the ecological crisis and economic and political instability. The Imperial Mode of Living implies that people's everyday practices, including individual and societal orientations, as well as identities, rely heavily on the unlimited appropriation of resources; a disproportionate claim on global and local ecosystems and sinks; and cheap labour from elsewhere. This availability of commodities is largely organised through the world market, backed by military force and/or the asymmetric relations of forces as they have been inscribed in international institutions. Moreover, the Imperial Mode of Living implies asymmetrical social relations along class, gender and race within the respective countries. Here too, it is driven by the capitalist accumulation imperative, growth-oriented state policies and status consumption. The concrete production conditions of commodities are rendered invisible in the places where the commodities are consumed. The imperialist world order is normalized through the mode of production and living.

It espouses a definition of space that is heterogeneous (an object or system consisting of a diverse range of different items). An example of heterogeneous space, for instance, is Manhattan where complex and multiple social and technological conditions are overlaid. (This is to be contrasted with highly centralised and ordered Modernist cities.) With the onset of globalisation and the Web, heterogeneneous space, with its emphasis on differentiation, is more relevant to the contemporary condition, which encourages the mixing of space, than a much more static conception of Modernist space. This book foregrounds spatial issues and the potential of heterogeneous space through a threefold strategy: 1) Its compilation of seminal essays on the discourse of heterogeneous space. These are to include previously published key texts by Reyner Banham, Andrew Benjamin, Robin Evans, Jeff Kipnis and Henri Lefebvre, as well as new texts by important contemporary commentators, such as Mark Cousins, Werner Durth and Anthony Vidler. 2) By commenting on these seminal texts and drawing links between them. 3) By distilling from the first two efforts a contemporary outlook on a discourse of heterogeneous space that is of future significance.
