Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intelligence is now acknowledged as the hidden dimension to international diplomacy and national security. The dictionary section has over 500 cross-referenced entries on espionage techniques, categories of agents, crucial operations spies, defectors, moles, double and triple agents, and the tradecraft they apply. Book Advanced Technologies for Future Transmission Grids

Download or read book Advanced Technologies for Future Transmission Grids written by Gianluigi Migliavacca and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-04 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The re-engineering of power transmission systems is crucial to meeting the objectives of such regulators as the European Union. In addition to its market, organisational and regulatory aspects, this re-engineering will also involve technical issues dealing with the progressive integration of innovative transmission technologies in the daily operation of transmission system operators. In this context, Advanced Technologies for Future Transmission Grids provides an overview of the most promising technologies, likely to be of help to planners of transmission grids in responding to the challenges of the future: security of supply; integration of renewable generation; and creation of integrated energy markets (using the European case as an example). These issues have increased importance because of administrative complication and the fragmentation of public opinion expressed on the build up of new infrastructure. For each technology discussed, the focus is on the technical-economic perspective rather than on purely technological points of view. A transmission-system-operator-targeted Technology Roadmap is presented for the integration of promising innovative power transmission technologies within power systems of the mid-long term. Although the primary focus of this text is in the sphere of the European energy market, the lessons learned can be generalized to the energy markets of other regions.

Book Contemporary Planning Practice

Download or read book Contemporary Planning Practice written by Gavin Parker and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-22 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planning today is an increasingly complex system of specialisms, and this brand new introduction is the first textbook to offer both a broad overview of each core area in planning, alongside the skills necessary to combine each specialism in order to make sustainable and efficient planning decisions. In so doing, it gives students a unique glimpse into the realities of working in planning today. Planners need knowledge that goes beyond the history of planning decisions in order to reconcile competing demands, from corporate speculative property developers to environmental activists. This new role – aggregating specialisms – is at the forefront of this innovative approach, equipping students with the tools necessary to do planning; which today means being both expert and generalist, specialist and synthesiser. Planners must now act as professional mediators of different (often conflicting or incompatible) interests. Planners are themselves working as specialists, whether that is in heritage, transport, ecology, economic assessment, or design. And this dual role reflects the organisation of this new text, introduced with a wealth of practitioner-informed chapters to enliven and inspire passion for the crucial role of planning. This text is an ideal companion for all practitioners and students of planning and related disciplines – at undergraduate and master's level.

Book The Ultimate Guide to Studying and Working Full Time

Download or read book The Ultimate Guide to Studying and Working Full Time written by Sherryann Bourne and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is so amazing how many people live only for the weekends, many persons are led to believe that all one can do during the week is to go to work. We regularly hear comments such as "Happy Friday" or a more popular one of late, "Cheers to the Weekend" - thanks to Rihanna. This mentality tends to stem from the amount of time we spend at our workplaces. When one really looks at it, we are spending more time with strangers than we are with our own families. Additionally, after a long and stressful day at work we tend to be tired both mentally and physically. However, despite this we all recognize that it is important to find a way to study while working as it is the only way one can stay relevant in today's work place. In the past our parents could have stayed with a company until retirement, benefiting from career advancements mainly due to the experience they would have accumulated on the job. In today's work environment that is no longer the case. Our parents are now being supervised by younger and more educated bosses, who have less work experience. When one acknowledges this trend, it becomes even more evident that we must continue to improve ourselves academically. Which leads to the question, how can this be accomplished while working full time? Or the even harder one, how can this be accomplished while working full time and maintaining a family? Most of us have husbands/wives, extended family or children and after spending so much time away from them due to our jobs, we may feel guilty if we have to spend further time away in order to study. However, by developing a true understanding of our work environment and learning some time proven skills for mastering the balancing act of juggling work, family and study one can become empowered enough to meet this challenge. This is what I aim to help readers with via the contents of this book.
