Book excerpt: Cette étude se propose de contribuer à une meilleure organisation de la formation et du recyclage de maitres ainsi qu'au développement de la recherche en sciences de l'éducation. divers instruments de recherche ont été utilisés : méthodes documentaires, d'enquête, d'observation, techniques du questionnaire et de l'entretien par exemple. Dans sa premiere partie, elle examine l'evolution historique de la formation des maitres et la reforme scolaire en Republique populaire du Congo. elle y relève notamment que l'organisation du travail, (discipline et methodes d'enseignement), tout comme la rigueur pour la sauvegarde de la qualité sont restées les mêmes du debut de la scolarisation à l'indépendance nationale. c'est après l'indépendance que les modalités et modèles de formation se caracterisent de plus en plus par des relachements de la rigueur qui porte atteinte à la qualité des maitres formés. Quant au projet de l'ecole du peuple, il se veut une ecole des metiers au service de l'independance nationale. la deuxieme partie de la thèse est consacrée à des enquêtes auprès des instituteurs, inspecteurs, professeurs d'ecoles normales, et à l'observation de la pratique pedagogique d'un certain nombre d'enseignants. Les opinions exprimées par les enquêtes et les visites réalisées montrent que le système scolaire congolais est dans son etat catastrophique. D'où la reflexion menée au debut de la troisième partie sur le sens de la scolarisation et l'Ecole du Peuple au Congo. Le projet de reforme en question parait trop ambitieux et même irrealisable pour un pays comme le Congo aux moyens forcement limités. Mais il faut redresser le système scolaire en place et le renover progressivement. La nouvelle strategie pour une meilleure formation des maitres proposée dans la troisième partie répond à ces deux objectifs. Les formations initiale et continue doivent être revigorées.
