Book Marx and the Common

Download or read book Marx and the Common written by Luca Basso and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Marx and the Common, Luca Basso provides a detailed reconstruction of the late Marx's connection of the collective dimension of communism and the element of individual realisation. Through an original analysis of a vast range of Marx's writings - from Capital to his political texts and scientific notes - the author brings out an articulated historical-theoretical landscape in which the notion of 'individual' is intertwined with the ideas of 'class', 'society' and 'community'. Rooting his analysis in the revolutionary power of the workers' 'acting in common', Basso brings to the fore an anthropological dynamic in Marx, irreducible to either liberal individualism or any kind of organicist approach.

Book I that is We We that is I Perspectives on Contemporary Hegel

Download or read book I that is We We that is I Perspectives on Contemporary Hegel written by Italo Testa and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "I that is We, We that is I", an international group of philosophers explore the many facets of Hegel’s formula which expresses the recognitive and social structures of human life. The book offers a guiding thread for the reconstruction of crucial motifs of contemporary thought such as the socio-ontological paradigm; the action-theoretical model in moral and social philosophy; the question of naturalism; and the reassessment of the relevance of work and power for our understanding of human life. This collection addresses the shortcomings of Kantian and constructivist normative approaches to social practices and practical rationality it involves. It sheds new light on Hegel’s take on metaphysics and puts into question some presuppositions of the post-metaphysical interpretative paradigm.

Book Marxism and Philosophy of Praxis

Download or read book Marxism and Philosophy of Praxis written by Marcello Mustè and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will offer a full reconstruction of the history of Theoretical Marxism in Italy between 1895 and 1935, based on a rigorous philological method. The starting term (1895) is marked by the publication of Antonio Labriola's first essay on historical materialism (In memory of Communist Manifesto); the final term coincides with the conclusion of the "Prison Notebooks" written by Antonio Gramsci. This book analyses the original character of the Marxist philosophy in Italy, which emerged by distinguishing itself from the "orthodoxy" of the Second and Third International. By delineating a significant chapter in the history of Marxism, the book will also propose a specific contribution to the history of Italian Philosophy, which is here studied in relation to the developments of European philosophy, beyond the traditional subdivisions of Positivism, Idealism and Marxism.

Book Marx s Attempt to Leave Philosophy

Download or read book Marx s Attempt to Leave Philosophy written by Daniel BRUDNEY and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daniel Brudney traces the development of post-Hegelian thought from Ludwig Feuerbach and Bruno Bauer to Karl Marx's work of 1844 and his Theses on Feuerbach, and concludes with an examination of The German Ideology. Brudney focuses on the transmutations of a set of ideas about human nature, the good life, and our relation to the world and to others; about how we end up with false beliefs about these matters; about whether one can, in a capitalist society, know the truth about these matters; and about the critique of capitalism which would flow from such knowledge. Brudney shows how Marx, following Feuerbach, attempted to reveal humanity's nature and what would count as the good life, while eschewing and indeed polemicizing against "philosophy"--against any concern with metaphysics and epistemology. Marx attempted to avoid philosophy as early as 1844, and the central aims of his texts are the same right through The German Ideology. There is thus no break between an early and a late Marx; moreover, there is no "materialist" Marx, no Marx who subscribes to a metaphysical view, even in The German Ideology, the text canonically taken as the origin of Marxist materialism. Rather, in all the texts of this period Marx tries to mount a compelling critique of the present while altogether avoiding the dilemmas central to philosophy in the modern era. The discussions of Bruno Bauer and Marx's writings of 1844-6, in particular, are valuable resources for students of German philosophy of the 1840s." DD--Brian Leiter, Times Literary Supplement "Brudney's work offers some fascinating insights into the world of the Young Hegelians from whence Marx came. It also makes some subtle points about the epistemology of moral theory and about the communitarian aspects of Marx's vision that are important for contemporary philosophy." DD--R. Hudelson, Choice

Book Critical Marxism in Mexico

Download or read book Critical Marxism in Mexico written by Stefan Gandler and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Critical Marxism in Mexico, Stefan Gandler, coming from the tradition of the Frankfurt School, reveals the contributions that Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez and Bolívar Echeverría have made to universal thought. While in recent times Latin America has taken its distance from global power centers, and reorganised its political and economic relations, in philosophy the same tendency is barely visible. Critical Marxism in Mexico is a contribution to the reorganisation of international philosophical discussion, with Critical Theory as the point of departure. Despite having studied in Europe, where philosophical Eurocentrism remains virulent, Gandler opens his eyes to another tradition of modernity and offers an account of the life and philosophy of Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez and Bolívar Echeverría, former senior faculty members at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Poverty of Philosophy

Download or read book The Poverty of Philosophy written by Karl Marx and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in the winter of 1846-7 as a response to Proudhon's Système des Contradictions Economique ou Philosophie de la Misère, this is essential background for appreciating Marx's later work, including Capital and his Communist Manifesto. Here, Marx begins to explore such concepts as constituted or synthetic value, the division of labor and machinery, competition and monopoly, strikes and the combination of workmen, and free trade, all of which would later come to play important roles in his social and political philosophy. Anyone wishing to understand Marx's approach to capitalism as an oppressor of the proletariat and as a movement destined to collapse must consider this required reading. Prussian philosopher KARL MARX (1818-1883) was a social scientist, historian, and political revolutionary. He is indisputably the most influential socialist thinker to emerge in the 19th century. Although scholars largely ignored him in his own lifetime, his social, economic, and political ideas gained rapid acceptance in the socialist movement after his death.

Book Economic Philosophy

Download or read book Economic Philosophy written by Adelino Zanini and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book investigates the relationship between the economic and political writings of four seminal authors: Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Joseph A. Schumpeter, and John M. Keynes. It underlines how in their works the nexus between ethics, economics, and politics has produced four exemplary solutions. They represent the most relevant modern formulations of the idea of 'political interest', to which the philosophical and political debate constantly returns, as the thought of Carl Schmitt, Hannah Arendt, and Michel Foucault demonstrates. The author discusses the different interpretations by considering economic science not as a natural, but as moral and political science.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Theories of the Nonobject investigates the crisis of the sculptural and painterly object in the concrete, neoconcrete, and constructivist practices of artists in Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela, with case studies of specific movements, artists, and critics. Amor traces their role in the significant reconceptualization of the artwork that Brazilian critic and poet Ferreira Gullar heralded in 'Theory of the Nonobject' in 1959, with specific attention to a group of major art figures including Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica, and Gego, whose work proposed engaged forms of spectatorship that dismissed medium-based understandings of art. Exploring the philosophical, economic, and political underpinnings of geometric abstraction in post-World War II South America, Amor highlights the overlapping inquiries of artists and critics who, working on the periphery of European and US modernism, contributed to a sophisticated conversation about the nature of the art object"--Provided by publisher.
