Estudios realizados por centros de excelencia, donantes, universidades y organizaciones internacionales han aportado informaciones que permiten comprender mejor las cuestiones de fertilidad de los suelos desde una perspectiva tecnica. El analisis economico del fenomeno de la degradacion facilita la articulacion de recomendaciones estrategicas y de politica, que son de interes para los responsables de las politicas, planificadores y organismos que ejecutan programas de mejoramiento de la productividad de los suelos. Se debate tambien si la economia puede aportar una contribucion para el logro de los objetivos de la seguridad alimentaria y de la agricultura sostenible."
