Book Au Naturel

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lara Anderson
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2010-03-08
  • ISBN : 1443820938
  • Pages : 345 pages

Download or read book Au Naturel written by Lara Anderson and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-08 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literary naturalism, within the Hispanic context, has traditionally been read as a graphic realist school or movement linked predominantly to late nineteenth century literary production. The essays in Au Naturel: (Re)Reading Hispanic Naturalism—written by scholars from different generations, nationalities and ideological backgrounds—propose a major revisionist contribution to the study of Hispanic naturalism. Based on a theoretical proposal that re-semanticizes naturalismo as a diachronic counter-metanarrative phenomenon that transcends the chronological and geographic limitations imposed by traditional criticism on naturalism, the collection provides new readings of traditional naturalist fare as well as re-readings of works that have not been read, within the bounds of conventional criticism, as naturalist. Re-read within the proposed theoretical framework, its essays demonstrate the countless ways in which Hispanic naturalist texts–literary and more recently, filmic—continue to frankly engage the societal problematics that has impeded true social, political, economic and cultural progress from taking place in the Hispanic world from the turbulent fin-de-siècle period of the nineteenth century through the present day, globalized context. Au Naturel: (Re)Reading Hispanic Naturalism is thus also an open invitation to the scholarly community to re-consider other socio-critical works within the Hispanic naturalist context that observe and reflection upon social issues that continue to plague Hispanic society today.

This book was released on 2020-01-31 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Itinerarios en la cr tica hispanoamericana written by Rosalba Campra and published by Eduvim. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Transculturaciones de la cr tica literaria en Latinoam rica I written by José Sánchez Carbó and published by Editora Nomada. This book was released on 2022-06-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Centenary Subjects

    Book Details:
  • Author : Shawn McDaniel
  • Publisher : Vanderbilt University Press
  • Release : 2021-12-15
  • ISBN : 0826502318

Download or read book Centenary Subjects written by Shawn McDaniel and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centenary Subjects examines the ideological debates and didactic exercises in subject formation during the centenary era of independence (the decade of the 1910s)—the peak of arielismo—and proposes a new reading of the arielista archive that brings into focus the racial anxieties, epistemological and spiritual fissures, and iconoclastic agendas that structure, and at times smother, the ethos of that era. Arielismo takes its name from José Enrique Rodó’s foundational essay Ariel (1900), a wide‑ranging gospel dedicated to Latin American youth that incited a cultural awakening under the banner of the spirit throughout the Americas at an ominous juncture—when the US co-opted the Cuban War of Independence in 1898, effectively rebranding it as the Spanish‑American War. Rodó’s optimistic message of transcendence as an antidote to the encroaching empire quickly became one of the most pervasive and malleable paradigms of regional empowerment, reverberating throughout a range of Latin Americanist projects in the twentieth and twenty‑first centuries. Centenary Subjects recovers a series of important but understudied essays penned by arielista writers, radicals, pedagogues, prophets, and politicians of diverse stripes in the early twentieth century, and analyzes how, under the auspices of the arielista platform, young people emerged as historical subjects invested with unprecedented cultural capital, increasing political power, and an urgent mandate to break with the past and transform the sociopolitical and cultural landscape of their countries. But their respective designs harbor racial, epistemological, aesthetic, and anarchistic strains that bring into sharper relief the conflicting signals that the centenary subject had to parse with respect to race, reason, and rupture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreigners in the Homeland analyzes the reception of the Latin American Boom novel in Spain. It argues in favor of an expanded concept of national literature that is not restricted to the native production of citizens but also takes into consideration the importance and nationalization of foreign cultural products. Charting the courses of interliterary relations between Spain and Spanish America, the book analyzes the conditions of the literary market during the 1960s and 1970s, follows the appropriation and canonization of Latin American authors and texts by readers and writers, and examines their impact on the resurgence of regional literatures within Spanish territory.
